I guess Raceland looks up to Ashland for some odd reason.

Possibly there is mutual respect between the two schools. Maybe Raceland enjoy's coming to Putnam Stadium to open the year. Honestly in Eastern Kentucky is there a better place to open the season than historic Putnam? I doubt it. I would venture a guess that both schools, fans, and teams enjoy this game. Even though Ashland I'm sure has quite a lead in the head-to-head standings, Raceland wins one over Ashland sometimes. I'm sure these wins every few meetings build Raceland's confidence for the rest of the season and give their kids fantastic memories. It would be nice of Russell to throw their "little brother" Fairview a bone every now and then......

Oh yeah.....watch out for Ashland's RB #21 Rashard Carter. He has big-time talent. He will be a record setter if his work ethic matches his God given ability.

Putnam is a great place to play, no doubt. However, I would venture to say that no team in the area spends all off season dreaming about opening up the season at putnam. The best place to play is on your home field. Period.

Carter was one of the Tomcats' bright spots in last week's scrimmage here at Mason County.

PS - Welcome to the site!

I seriously, do not understand the fascination with this. It is a non-district game, against a formidable opponent, in a playoff type atmosphere. It is meant to get Raceland ready for the district match ups and the playoffs. Is that not what all non-district games are for?

Does Raceland, as well as all teams, want to win this game as well as all their games? Of course. But, it is to prepare for the district/playoff games, plain and simple.

I still say it will be a good game, as it normally is.

I have hear a lot of good stuff about Carter, I hope Raceland can contain him.

Wouldn't Fairview be Ashland's "little brother" since they are in their city, county, or "backyard"?

BTW, beating Ashland these days is not as difficult as it once was.

Maybe it used to be difficult to walk out of Putnam with a win. It isn't anymore.
