Nerve damage and compromise is common with joint injuries, due to the fact that the nerves run close to all joints as they travel the length of the extremities. You joint is basically not in the place it should be due to the angle of the scapula and the inflammation, so it is putting pressure on the ulnar nerve.

If you want a local doctor, I would recommend Dr. Aiken. But, I would advise you to go to Cabel Huntington and find out what doctor does the shoulders for Marshall and get him. Just my opinion.

Where is Dr. Aiken based? Scott Orthopedic?

Dr. Aiken is based in Ashland, he has a private practice. Scott Orthopedics is in Huntington and they are the group that provides Orthopedist to Marshall. I just don't remember which doctor does shoulders. Carr used to do knees (he did mine), Craythorn did ankles, But I do not know who does shoulders.

My son saw him for an ankle injury. My son also had a shouldr injury in college from football, He had to have it repaired in Lexington, forgot which DR, it was at Good Samaritian.

Friesen, Allen, or Corbett?

Arthritis as a 22 year old ?

I'd say the answer to that, simply. Is yes.

I'm already forming some in my knee's. My shoulder is also messed up, I had a "Rifle for an arm", growing up, then a car wreck changed all of that. Now my shoulder is seperated, and I've got a torn labrum. Knee's still bum, and both are starting to form mild arthritis. Actually more common than you would think, and perhaps even more if you're actually in good shape, from wear and tear.

Also on a side note, some one mentioned it being congenital, do your shoulder blades stick out at all?

Only reason I ask is bc mine would both me some as well, and I have a "condition", called winged scapula, kinda weird but makes your posture a bit different. Only cool thing I've seen from it is that I can move pretty weird ways, have great muscles controll in that region, and can crush a can in between my shoulder blades. But I've heard it can lead to some problems.

I know it stinks, but I'm 22 as well, and I've got some very similar ailments myself man.

Okay, I guess my next question would be does anyone know a good shoulder specalist ? I'd be willing to pay 400 under the table with very little pain medication involved

In all seriousness thanks everyone. As I said earlier I played sporst all my life and I know the difference between an ache and an injury and this is an injury. It's been bothering me for over and year and it gets worse by the week. I suppose I'll give therapy a try and go from there.

One more question. My doctor also mentioned this injury causing me to have a pinched nerve (Ulnar nerve?) that was causing 2 of my fingers to be numb for most of the day. Is this something common that goes along with my injury or have I just let this one injury cause a lot of problems in my arm because I waited so long to have it checked out ?

You've gotten some very good advice here and Dr. Tim Kremchek, in the Cincinnati area and Reds physician is excellent.

It appears to me that the Holiday Inn Express did an awful lot of business the past couple of days.

As a local sports medicine professional, I would recommend Dr. Giangarra at Cabell. He is one of Marshall's team ortho's and will get you going in the right direction as far as the appropriate steps to take. It does sound as though you may have had some type of injury, possibly a shoulder separation, in the past that has combined with the congenital shape of the acromion to give you an overuse type of injury. That just means it was caused by repeated action as opposed to one traumatic event.

Orthopedic guy will have you out of surgery in less than 1hr. Do it while you're young, don't fart around and wait, when you get as old as Ram and I you don't mend as easily:D

You got that right. The connective tissue just don't connect as much as it used to. I have said for a while now, I will not have another knee surgery unless I can't walk. How about you Doc?

Above the rotator cuff is a bony projection from the scapula (shoulder blade) called the acromion. The acromion forms the “ceiling” of the shoulder, serves as the point of origin for the deltoid muscle, and joins the clavicle (collarbone) to form the acromioclavicular (a/c) joint.

I would venture to say it means you have arthritis in your shoulder that has formed bone spurs from wear and tear. It also sounds like there's some growth of fibrous tissue from the damage.

Me too. Shoulder feels great now though. I can lift and all that, I just can't sleep on it.
