Question for Beechwood Fans?

Featured Replies

Beechwood doesn't have to have one its best teams ever to win the state title this year, as watered down as Class A is.

At this point Mayfield would probably have trouble with Beechwood. Mayfield is rebuilding with a new QB and a few new linemen. Mayfield is a fairly young team and in the next year or two should be the favorite in class 1A. Right now its Beechwood. Hopefully Mayfield will get better as the season moves on and by Thanksgiving would be able to possibly beat Beechwood. The long drive down here should help Mayfield some. Mayfield will have plenty of speed in the backfield and from its ends. I look forward to Mayfield's scrimmage this comming friday to have a better opinion about this years team. As far as this being Beechwoods best team, let the season play out, then judge.

Yes, I remember that 97 team...They were virtually unchallenged in there class that year... I remember Hancock Co had a very good QB and a few decent linemen, but, that was about it.. Beechwood hammered em in the finals...

That was '99. Beechwood hammered Dennis Johnson and Harrodsburg in '97.

Sorry, it's already been stated.

I still think Beechwood was the better team in 95.

I know we have argued over this 10,000 times over the years but you didnt get Mayfield's best that day. Mayfield was new to class A having just moved down and had been untested til the Beechies gave them the scare of their lives. Mayfield went into that game expecting Beechwood to roll over and just give them the trophy but nobody told Beechwood they were suspose to do that. Mayfield was loaded by 1A standards that year and should have been more ready to play than they were. Since we have argued over this a million times I dont expect this to change your opinion now but had to atleast throw in my side of it.

As for this year I believed we had a shot and still do but I had no idea Beechwood would be fielding such a strong team til a few weeks ago when you guys brought it to my attention. Clearly Beechwood has to be the favorite followed by Frankfort and Mayfield. I still like our chances though, I expect a title every year and this one is no different.

Looking at the final score of a scrimmage and then making judgments would be unwise.
True. I was the one that posted the 49-14 unofficial score. That came simply from me counting touchdowns. Problem with that is, some of those came in the "10 & 10" portion of the game. Also, the rest of the "game" was played under modified rules. Beechwood actually led at one point 14-7.

HHS did wear them down along the way; but a lot of the scoring occurred in 2nd & 3rd team match-ups. In no way should that score be used to gauge how a real contest between these two teams would turn out.

I do believe Beechwood is going to be a monster in 1A this year. They have the pieces -- they just have to put them together and make it happen.

Well, difficulty of district games. I am just looking at the teams that Mayfield and Beechwood have to beat to get out of their respective districts, thats all. Bellvue is the only team I know much about in Beechwoods district, but Fulton City is returning quite a bit this year and so is Crittenden county and Fulton County isn't too shabby in Mayfield's district. I ain't saying its a ton better but it appears slightly better.

Beechwood has a very difficult non-district schedule which will make up for any lack of competition in district.

Now we're at #10,001 ...

Like Guru, I think Beechwood was a little better than Mayfield, but the Cardinals found a way to win the game. I'm willing to bet that was one of the best Class A title games ever, in terms of the quality of the two teams.

OK. Yes. With all apologies to Bellevue and Ludlow, its a one-team race with no competition for the Tigers.

Guess you did...Its a question, not a judgement.. I think, as an outsider looking in, a legit one... Seems to me other Tiger fans seem to question that statement, too.. How about defending the position, if you feel that way rather than attacking me. Or at least attack the others on here who may have the same opinion and a little more insight than me...

No attack , brother. It would just be hard to say it was simply a question with the way you worded it.

Defend what position? Beechwood is the favorite? I have no clue how good Mayfield will be so I can't speak to a head-to-head battle. I DO know that this team will be top-notch REGARDLESS of class. If Mayfield is better, they're VERY strong.

My point is this: A score from a scrimmage tells no one anything unless you can see it and put it into context. Otherwise, it would be like saying "wow, the D-Rays must be good this year. They beat the Mets by 5 runs in the Grape Fruit League."

Whereas the district schedule for the Tigers isn't very challenging, the no district matchups will more than make up for it. I've attached their schedule for you so that you can be the judge.

Cool, here's Mayfield's schedule, it looks much similar with the exception that Mayfield has scheduled a couple of 6A teams but the two opponents that you have in 5A in Cov Cath and Dixie Heights make up for the 6A size of Graves and Marshall Counties.

Aug 31, '07 - Open

Sep 7, '07 - Ballard Memorial @ Mayfield - 7:30 PM

Sep 14, '07 - Graves County @ Mayfield - 7:30 PM

From the looks of it, we could very well be able to tell how these two teams will fare from how well they do against their respective schedules, :thumb:

Beechwood's schedule looks a bit tougher ... if Mayfield was still playing Hopkinsville, it could go the other way.

I agree, I hated to see hoptown drop from the schedule.

What about the Berger years did'nt he rush for a couple 200 yard games in the state championship games??? What years was that?

I'm pretty sure that Noel would laugh at the notion that this is Beechwood's best team ever. They are top dog in 1A this year - all of us agree on that.
