Defend what position? Beechwood is the favorite? I have no clue how good Mayfield will be so I can't speak to a head-to-head battle. I DO know that this team will be top-notch REGARDLESS of class. If Mayfield is better, they're VERY strong.

 

My point is this: A score from a scrimmage tells no one anything unless you can see it and put it into context. Otherwise, it would be like saying "wow, the D-Rays must be good this year. They beat the Mets by 5 runs in the Grape Fruit League."

 

Personally, I dont know how Mayfield got dragged into this. The whole thread was asking if this was the best Beechwood team ever as some have stated. When I said defend your position, either tell me why you think they are or why you think they're not.. I simply found it a little strange to get beat like that, scrimmage or not, format or not, and then have some make those claims.

I have the utmost respect for Beechwood...always have...always will...but let's wait and see how the season goes for the Beechies before proclaiming this team the best ever...that is alot of pressure for the players of Beechwood this year considering they have not played a minute of significant football this season. My only regret with this new alignment that if Mayfield and Beechwood meet it will not be in the finals...the two games we have played so far have been some great action that could have gone either way in those two games.

 

Good luck to Beechwood this year and hopefully we will see each other in the playoffs!

It's funny how biilboard material is made up .In another thread there was not any B'wood fans posting how they would win state but B'wood was giving Mayfield BB material .Here again it goes on .Who said you have no chance ? I believe this game will be played on Dec 7 I believe, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I know it will be played at Mayfield this year cause East goes west this year.

I have seen them all, the Beechwood teams that is. This yr's team has the potential to be ONE of the best but not THE BEST. As several stated, let's see them play a few games before anyone jumps the gun.

 

As for looking past Mayfield, anyone that knows H.S. football will not look past Mayfield, especially anyone assoc w/the Beechwood football program, meaning players/coaches.

 

This match-up would take place in Mayfield for the semi-finals if both teams live up to everyone's expectations. Good luck to both as this is a much anticipated potential re-match.

I haven't seen any posts in this thread referencing bulletin board material. I'm a Mayfield fan and started this post and never mentioned Mayfield. Basically, I'm a HS football fan and I like to keep up with teams who are supposed to be so called "Best Ever", especially if they're in Mayfields classification. I guess since I support the Cardinals and start a thread on someone else, then others assume theres an alterier motive or something. Like I said, I don't know how Mayfield even got dragged into this. I was simply an outsider with what I thought were some legitimate questions.

I have to agree with you on that one... as watered down as class A is, I'd say they would have to win it to even be in the conversation as best ever. They should be head and shoulders above the rest. You could throw Mayfield, Frankfort and possibly LCA as teams who may could challenge, but, thats about it. Unlike prior years where there was NCC, Bardstown, Danville, Somerset and the like to compete with.

Several said Beechwood would run the 1A table in the Bwood- Highlands scrimmage thread. That is where I am guessing some of it came from but that was not really a thread meant for Mayfield or anyother 1A teams as a shot over the bow.

 

Again off the topic but it sounds like its better for Mayfield that Beechwood has to make that trip out west. We may need all the help we can get if the Beechies are that kinda strong this year. This should be a pretty good Mayfield team but by no means is it gonna turn out to be one of the Cards strongest ever.

 

Also off topic but somthing has gotta be done about this alignment. Assuming Beechwood has to travel to Mayfield if both win out. The Beechwood fans that decide to travel to Mayfield will find out that this is just wrong for teams to have to travel these kind of distances to play. I can leave Mayfield and go to Destin, Florida and its not alot further than if I travel to Cincy. I hope that a neutral site is given serious consideration for the future, espically given that both these teams are good bets to meet alot in the comming years. Its not fair to players, coaches, fans and pocket books with the cost of petro these days

Like Guru, I think Beechwood was a little better than Mayfield, but the Cardinals found a way to win the game. I'm willing to bet that was one of the best Class A title games ever, in terms of the quality of the two teams.

Beechwood's schedule looks a bit tougher ... if Mayfield was still playing Hopkinsville, it could go the other way.

If Mayfield had a weakness that year, it was there secondary and pass defense...Hopkinsville exploited it earlier that year and so did Beechwood. Mayfields srength was there OL and stable of RBs. They kept the Tigers offense off the field with long sustained drives the whole game and controlled the clock. Mayfield would have those 12-15 play 70-80 yd drives that ate 5-6 minutes and score and then Beechwood would come right back and score within 2 minutes with the passing game and big plays. Neither teams defense had an answer for the others offense. I agree it could have gone either way and IMO, if they played 10 times, it would have been 5 to 5. I thought they were that close. Certainly different style teams, but, both were very effective in what they did..
