September 20, 200718 yr Looks like whoever comes out on the bottom in the AL East race is almost a lock for the wild card, so it doesn't matter much to me now that I see that. From what I've read, it looks like the Red Sox have their pitchers set up good for the playoff rotation, so hopefully they can get the the bullpen fixed and take care of business in the playoffs. Losing the AL East will do one of two things for Boston, IMO... 1) They'll completely collapse and mail the season in with a horrible playoff performance and first round exit... or 2) It will light a fire under them, they'll get refocused and motivated and make a real run in the playoffs.

On a side note, I still think the Sawx win the East but this is WAY too much fun... I certainly hope that it is. I have said all along that it was way to early to count the Yankees out. The Sox still have the lead but if the Yanks move into first place (and I think they will) it would be tough for Boston to live this one down. GO YANKEES!!

Baseball's a negative game, while hitting .300 is a great feat it is still getting out 70% of the time. So to counter that, baseball players work TREMENDOUSLY hard to perfect their mental game, especially at this level. As stated in many books, including H.A Dorfman's 'Mental Game of Baseball', a baseball player must remove any doubt from his mind, keep it clear and stay focused. Regardless if that's toward his own mechanics, the pitcher he's facing, the park he's playing in, the umpire behind the plate or the TEAM HE'S PLAYING. So, when it came down to it and the Sawx could put away the Yanks, they lost 5 of 6. They now have doubt. To answer your question, no...it doesn't change a thing. If you don't think they have doubt in their mind, you either don't get it or refuse to admit it. And before you start, don't give me any other examples, regardless if they're right of wrong. Those teams are not the Yankees and Red Sox.
