Are The Red Sox Going To Lose The Division?

Featured Replies

After sweeping the Sox I felt we were making a statement and the Rays do us in again. Got to beat the M's the next two or we are done. M's lost seven or eight in a row and we don't make ground.

This has nothing to do with this thread but Torii Hunter will be a Yankee next season.

You don't believe everything you hear on Baseball Tonight do you? I know that's what one of them said during the Twins highlights but they've got Damon, Cabrera, Matsui under contract (or in Cabrera's case he isn't eligible for FA) as well as a club option on Abreu with a $2 million buyout and Giambi is under contract so none of the outfielders will be the DH. It is far from a done deal that Hunter ends up in the Bronx.

Red Sox win 5-3, Beckett picks up win #17. Speaking of 17, that is the Red Sox magic number. Even a Yankee sweep at Fenway probably won't help the Pinstripes in the division race.

Yep. And once again, the wild card is in their reach. As long as the Pinstripers play like they did last night. Still 2 up on the Mariners and, hopefully, 3 after tonight.

Red Sox nip the Orioles at Fenway South errrrr Camden Yards 7-6. Bucholtz picks up the win in relief to go 3-0. The magic number is down to 16. . . .

How awesome is that to be able to have a guy like Bucholz available out of the pen?

He's doing great. Be interesting to see what he can do agains the Yankees this coming week.

The Red Sox came back from a 7 run deficit to beat the Devil Rays 16-10. The magic number is 13........

MLB announced today that the AL team with the best record would have one hour after the last AL regular season game is played to choose who they want to play. So, we know that the Red Sox will, more than likely, be that team. And we know that they can't choose the Yankees(if they keep the AL WC lead) becuse they are in their division. So, that would leave either the Angels or the Indians. And they get two days off instead of one in the 5 game series. That means that the BoSox could pitch two of their best pitchers twice in the series if needed.

The NL isn't a part of this. My guess it's the All Star game rule.

This was reported on Mike and Mike in the Morning. I can't find a link. When I do, I'll post it.

Big Papi does it again........walk off 2 run homer in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Devil Rays 5-4. Overall he had 2 homers and all 5 Boston RBIs. The magic number is now 12..........

Sox do it again!

Down 4-0 early, they battled back and pulled out a 5-4 victory on a David Ortiz walk off 2-Run shot. It was Ortiz's 2nd HR of the game.

The Yankees won their 7th in a row tonight, as Mussina returned to the rotation in a big way going 6 2/3 innings of scoreles ball in a 4-1 win.

Boston maintains their 5 game lead with 15 to play....The magic number is now down to 12.

The pitching matchups for this weekend are:

Friday: Pettite vs. Matsuzaka

Saturday: Wang vs. Beckett (CY Young Battle??)

Sunday: Clemens vs. Schilling

Beat you to it! :D

GO YANKEES!!!! Pride, Passion and Pinstipes !

This weekend could spell disaster for the Yanks. It just doesn't bode well. A seven, possibly eight game winning streak going in, playing at Fenway, the Sawx are doing their late inning thing again. Honestly, it may be better to lose tonight, even though they can't afford to lose any. They can NOT get swept by the Sawx.

On the other hand, if they get within two games the last two weeks will be AWESOME!!!
