This thread title should be changed...Vince made one mistake...throwing his right hand...other than that...he stepped up, AGAIN in a leadership role and this will work wonders...

Vince Young is gonna be a stud in the NFL. This doesn't prove to me he's a leader...He's already proven that and that he's guy that can elevate the play of his teammates, and a guy that can make big plays himself when he has to...if the Madden Curse doesn't get him, they'll be a lot of people eating crow about Mr. Young and what he will do in the NFL...

 

I suspect most of the people criticizing him for this are people who don't like him, don't think he'll succeed and hope he doesn't so they won't be wrong. He'll be a top 5 QB in the NFL sooner rather than later. Write it down. :sssh:

I don't care how good he is or going to be. You don't go punching teammates, period. Get in their grill, challenge them, teach them a lesson in another way. Punching teammates is not becoming of a 'leader'...

 

I understand your reasoning nobody should result to violence or physical contact but let's be real.. that was what I call a "love tap." Some of those guys are pretty big boys and they need to be slapped around sometimes.

I'm not sure of Top 5, but I'd say he's going to do good things for the Titans.

These pushing/altercations, are a frequent as water breaks. Young just earned more respect, from both sides of the ball.

I'm with you! When you have a QB throwing down for a cheapshot on one of your guys then you are going to earn the respect of your team. I think he was dumb if he swung a punch with his throwing hand though.

 

On a side note I wasn't a huge Vince Young fan although I loved watching him (other than his throwing motion). I don't know if you all remember the story I told last year but I heard this one on the radio. A group of kids were out in the yard tossing football down in Texas. This nice car stopped in the street and Vince Young got out. He asked the kids and their dad's "Can I play" of course they said yes. The dad that callled in said he spent quality time with both the kids and the dads passing ball, taking pictures and signing autographs. I thought that was pretty cool!

As a Titans fan, I don't like seeing him using his throwing hand! But I do like the fact that he has his players back, and will stand up against a cheap shot in practice.

What is this third string defensive back doing getting in a fight with the future franchise quarterback? He should have just backed away. Easier said than done though.

To clarify, I don't have a problem with VY getting in a guys face. However, he triggered a fight that involved his ENTIRE team. Anyone that says that's good for a team doesn't have a clue about team sports...period.

No fights are good, under any circumstance. Team shoving matches and curse words, are common place as you know, in Football.

 

It will all be forgotten, until practicing in the heat again today. Tempers will be discussed at the pre-game meetings and extra media coverage, will be around.

 

Unity can happen, in many strange ways. Young will be a leader and I can see his team, following a winner like him.

The opposite is more likely to happen. The defense thinks he's a punk and has no right slapping one of their 'boys'. It's tough enough keeping a team unified when offense and defense are two different animals. Starting a fight between the two certainly won't help.

 

Question: Does anyone remember Dan Marino, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Brett Favre...etc slapping someone in the face to gain control of the team? On top of that, does anyone remember a relevant QB in the last ten years that has? If fights happen so often during camp, why don't we see other 'leaders' doing this?
