Again: If fights in camp happen so often, and I'm not disputing that, why haven't we ever heard about one of the great QB's or 'leaders' slapping a teammate?

 

The answer is simple; it's not becoming of a team 'leader'...

Most of the time, they are wearing those "don't touch me vests" and it's usually, between two 350lb lineman or a running back, who gets hit a little too hard.

 

At the same time, I've seen QB's grab facemasks and exchange verbal jabs, in years past. One of the reasons we/I can't recall specifics, is because it's not a big deal.

 

If someone wanted to, I feel safe in saying a little "Googling" on QB altercations in training camp, might reveal more than one would think.

That's exactly what I said a good leader would do. He gets his point across and doesn't start a battle between the entire team. And you're right, if he would've done it that way it would not have been a big deal. He didn't, he involved his entire team which is counter-productive...

Fights may happen throughout training camp but how many "leaders" do you see that started the fight instead of trying to break it up? I haven't seen any like that on ESPN. Leaders don't start fights with teammates, they try to either prevent/break-up fights that are happening or about to happen. And like sticky said, anyone who thinks a "leader" is just for starting a fight doesn't know much about team sports and team unity.

 

 

 

How many times have you seen Brett Farve hit someone? How about Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Heck let's throw Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers and Matt Hasselbeck out there. I've never heard of the media reporting a supposed team leader starting fights. If someone else has then please let me know, don't wanna jump to any premature assumptions.

 

I agree to an extent, but it seemed to me VY was sticking up for his teammate. When the other teammate didn't back down, and got in Youngs faces and pushed him in the chest. I mean it's not like VY went at him swinging from the get go.

This is mentioned again and I consider myself, quite knowledgeable about team sports and unity.....again, I will say this happens all the time, more than you ever here. It's not a big deal but another example, of media getting some air time.

 

If anyone has every participated in a team sport, you would agree there are disagreements, altercations and even teammates you don't like. At the same time, when the white lines are painted, gear is on and it starts for real, you rely on the teammate right beside you and cheer for those, on the other side of the ball.

 

Not only that, but if you listen to any radio talk shows (like NFL Radio), the former players and people who are around the camps back that statement up...I'll take their word for it...and I'll take VY under center. The guy's a winner, plain and simple.

These pushing/altercations, are a frequent as water breaks. Young just earned more respect, from both sides of the ball.

I agree, although throwing a punch into a football helmet wasn't an act from the "sharpest knife in the drawer ". Especially when you are a qb and it is with your throwing hand/arm. :eek: :lol:

In addition, that defensive player is "his guy" too. A "leader" would have taken the time to "coach" the player.

To clarify, I don't have a problem with VY getting in a guys face. However, he triggered a fight that involved his ENTIRE team. Anyone that says that's good for a team doesn't have a clue about team sports...period.

 

Ouch. I think you are making it too black & white, there is a lot of grey area on this. If he did this a lot, or if he was being divisive (and fracturing the team) I'd agree. Hopefully this is a one time thing, the team knows that their "over-rated" ( ) QB is willing to step and take control, and now the team moves forward unified behind their guy. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in this case.

Yes I agree, when I played high school baseball there were teammates I didn't like and yes when it came time to play I set it aside but sometimes if there is tension between teammates then it'll go on to the field. Say your SS and 2B are fueding and hate each other, it's more apt for the SS to field a double play by himself rather than trust his 2B to turn the DP.

I know everyone realizes, Pro Football is a collision sport and violent contacts, tackles, taunting and jawing, will lead to these types.

 

Most altercations, pushing, punches are reactive and no thought process involved. I'm sure if Young, had thought before acting, his punch might not have been thrown, much less with his throwing hand.

 

Again, not a big deal and will make the Titans, an even closer team.
