These things happen all the time. They'll be friends and think nothing of it by the next day. Heck they will prolly laugh about it if its brought up. No big deal, move along.

The opposite is more likely to happen. The defense thinks he's a punk and has no right slapping one of their 'boys'. It's tough enough keeping a team unified when offense and defense are two different animals. Starting a fight between the two certainly won't help.

 

Disagree with you 'bro. Fights happen all the time, by players who lineup side by side. Once contact with other teams start and the heat, in camp subsides a little, things will be normal.

 

Happens almost every day, in some camp. Non-story, in my book.

It's funny for us to think that they just "laugh" it off but how do we know. Yeah we may hear them say "everything's ok" but really I doubt it's like that. If most of these players will take guns to clubs and start altercations then I'm sure they don't care about doing it with teammates either. Remember professional athletes are taught about being poised in front of the camera so I bet that most of the time when they say "it's ok" that it's just for show.

If he gets in there and fights, I don't care if he's slapping limp wristed or overhand rights or lefts, show me you have the intestinal fortitude and you'll gain more respect with me than if you run and hide.

Fights may happen throughout training camp but how many "leaders" do you see that started the fight instead of trying to break it up? I haven't seen any like that on ESPN. Leaders don't start fights with teammates, they try to either prevent/break-up fights that are happening or about to happen. And like sticky said, anyone who thinks a "leader" is just for starting a fight doesn't know much about team sports and team unity.

 

 

 

How many times have you seen Brett Farve hit someone? How about Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Heck let's throw Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers and Matt Hasselbeck out there. I've never heard of the media reporting a supposed team leader starting fights. If someone else has then please let me know, don't wanna jump to any premature assumptions.

Hence widening the gap between the offense and defense. It's not just about Vince Young. He started something that escalated. Now he had his right guard fighting with their outside backer and tight end with their 'D' tackle...etc.

You hear all the time, from youth to professional coaches say..."Someone needs to step up and be a leader". Young did, in my opinion.

 

I believe Young, didn't like the hit and wanted to take care of his offensive teammate. These guys are professionals and they will have one goal. This is a media story and not a team issue.

Again: If fights in camp happen so often, and I'm not disputing that, why haven't we ever heard about one of the great QB's or 'leaders' slapping a teammate?

 

The answer is simple; it's not becoming of a team 'leader'...
