While all of this who is going where stuff is just a game to us, we forget (correction, I occasionally forget) that this is real life for these guys. It must be awkward as heck. You imagine sitting at your desk, trying to work, wondering if any minute your boss is going to walk in and say now you work in Kansas City -- see ya'. Can't be easy.

 

Here is a good read about the Reds' clubby yesterday. I know I'm biased, but Dunn sitting by himself, stewing, fidgeting with a deck of cards, certainly doesn't sound like a guy that doesn't care and only wants to hunt and fish.

Everything you wanted to know about "Waivers" but never did....

 

Any team may "ask for waivers" on a player by sending a request to the MLB.

 

MLB then sends out a list of player(s) that have been put on waivers. A claim is good for "3 days". If no team makes a waiver claim, the player passes waivers, then may be traded.

 

If more than one team claims a player, priority is defined as follows:

(a) Teams in the same league, as is asking for waivers, in order from worst record to best, then teams in the other league, same selection order.

(b) The highest priority claim stands, others are dismissed.

 

The team which asked for waivers may now:

(1) Pull the player back from waivers, which ends the process or

trade the player to the claiming team

(2) Allow the claiming team to take the player for the standard waiver fee.

If they negotiate a trade with the claiming team, any player(s) being sent in return must, clear waivers or be delivered to the team, at the conclusion of the regular season.

 

A "10-and-5" man may veto a trade or waiver claim transaction. If he does, he stays with the team which waived his rights.

 

Once a player has been on waivers and is pulled back by his club, they can ask for waivers on him again that season, but the next time waivers are "irrevocable".
