May 31, 200719 yr Author Look who Duncan has around him though. Manu, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, and veteran leadership from Robert Horry. Look who Kobe has, other than Odom, not a lot, Smush Parker, but he doesnt even compare to Tony. And Luke Walton doesnt come close to Manu either. I believe Duncan could win atleast 1 Western Conference series if you traded him to the Lakers for Bryant. Odom was a much better player playing without Bryant. Put Bynam in there with Duncan and that would be a very good inside punch.

May 31, 200719 yr Skill wise no but he has been solid there is no question. He has had some very quality role players on all of his teams. I say its very close between him and Kobe. Am I far off comparing Kobe v. Tim as the old Tom Brady v. Peyton Manning? Manning/Kobe have better numbers while Tim and Tom are steady winners?
May 31, 200719 yr IMO if Kobe had the supporting cast that Duncan has had, it wouldn't even be close... Exactly which means Kobe is the better player which = best player in the last 10 years.

He was on the downside of his career. The 2nd title he won was with Manu and Parker, but Parker and Manu weren't all that good yet. Parker I believe even sat a lot of the Finals out and Speedy Claxton really stepped in and played well, which earned him a job elsewhere the following season. In Duncans second championship, Tony averaged around 14 points in the playoffs. Manu averaged 9ppg that year in the playoffs, and 7ppg in the regular season. Parker and Manu weren't all-stars when Duncan won his 2nd championship. Also on the 02-03 team were Stephen Jackson, Danny Ferry, Bruce Bowen, Steve Kerr and Steve Smith. I believe Duncan was the only all-star on the team that year...
