Tim Duncan: Best player of the last 10 years?

Featured Replies

I was thinking he is probably the best player of the last 10 years. He has won 3 championships, and I believe the Spurs will make it 4. Duncan had Robinson for the first 2, but the last championship he wasn't a big factor. Really he has never had a sidekick like Kobe Bryant, Shaq, or Dwayne Wade. I think Duncan is #1 IMO.

Really can't argue against him, 3 rings with all types of different teammates. He isn't flashy but he's all around solid.

Skill wise no but he has been solid there is no question. He has had some very quality role players on all of his teams. I say its very close between him and Kobe.

Fundamentally, yes and makes his team better...Yes, but Kobe, is a better player.

The supporting cast around Duncan, is solid and well coached, also.

Duncan only had Robinson for the first championship, didn't he?

I'm pretty sure they got 2 together.

Yeah, Robinson was there for the first two. This year will make 4, and though he might be the person that most NBA execs would choose to have built a team around when he came into the league he's not the best player in that span. That would be Kobe, however Timmy is the best teammate and the biggest winner hands down.

Duncan will have more titles than Kobe at the end of this season and he already has more MVP awards. Duncan all the way.

The 1 major difference between Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan is that Duncan makes the players around him a whole lot better than Bryant makes his teammates.

Kobe Bryant. He has won 3 championships, while avg. more points, and more ast. than Duncan.

Look who Duncan has around him though. Manu, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, and veteran leadership from Robert Horry. Look who Kobe has, other than Odom, not a lot, Smush Parker, but he doesnt even compare to Tony. And Luke Walton doesnt come close to Manu either.

Comparing Duncan and Kobe is like comparing Apples to Oranges though. Both have been great in their own calling. You could go back 2 years and you have to say that Shaq was the best player of that 10 year period....

Duncan's been great, but he's also had an unbelievable group of players around him every year. Guys like Manu, Parker, Horry, Robinson, Kerr, AJ, Mario Ellie, Finley, etc....

I'd say Duncan, Kobe, and Shaq would have to be the top 3, but I think it's a toss-up between the three.

IMO if Kobe had the supporting cast that Duncan has had, it wouldn't even be close...

Kobe also had Shaq when he was unstoppable, back then, IMO, it was Shaq that carried those 3 championships.
