Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth from an innocent bystander point of view. Had no rooting interest in either team. Just went with my 13yr old to see what the 9th region had to offer.

Great venue. Couldn't ask for more as far as field/seating. Hats off to Champion field. Atmosphere was fantastic for a high school game. Near perfect weather for a ball game. Seems a shame that next round will be at St. Henry (although a good field, the seating is limited).

Home run to left by Bleser? looked foul to us, but we were on 3rd base line.

Covcath runner was interfered with rounding 3rd.

Both of these plays the 3rd base ump looked lost/confused and he heard it from both coaches.

We both wondered why Nutini? was pulled going into last inning. He looked back in a groove with the bottom of the lineup for Ryle coming up and a 3 run lead.

Sad to see either team lose a game like this, but this is what sports is all about. Competition, sportsmanship, leaving it all on the field.

Congrats to the victors.

As far as things go with Maile, he laced an offspeed pitch past a diving shortstop in the first inning with no one on.

His next at bat he saw 4 offspeed pitches, that were all balls for an unintentional intentional walk.

His final two at bats he was already being pointed down to first before his name was even announced. Once, with a runner on second and 1 out, and I believe that the second time loaded the bases.

Even though he wasn't given a chance offensively, it was quite apparent that he is the real deal!!! Not only for the offensive respect he was given but just the way that he commands the game. Talking to pitchers, speaking with his coaches, and the way he carries himself. I was VERY impressed.

Tough situation for Isler. Has he even pitched 20 innings this season?

According to CCH player, he has pitched 4 innings. Not sure how accurate that is, but it is definently under 10.

Hats off to Ryle. As a CovCath observer, just seeing Murray and Oliver up at the plate makes me nervous. They just look like baseball players.

Blue made the call immediately. I know because I lost the ball and immediately turned to see what he was going to call. He emphatically called it fair while running down the line.

Right call? No clue.

In the excitement and watching the ball go out I must have missed him calling it right away, when I picked him up he was up the line looking at the third base umpire and together they offered nothing.

Good thoughts Just Jim on an outstanding game. Two solid teams that I could watch play every day!

To be clear, it was the 3rd base umpire I was watching.

SHould we assume this was a NKY attendance record for a high school game? Bigger than last year's? Bigger than CCH-Beechwood?

Understood...After I watched the ball go out and picked up the umps they both were looking at each other stunned like they didn't know what was happening. I believe I came in late on the call.

From my vantage point-mid way between home plate and 1st- I would say it was fair. Real close call to have to make!

In today's paper, they were estimating 2200 to 2500 for last night's game.

Did Coach Rosel ask the 3rd base ump to ask the HP ump for his opinion?

I am not sure, but Roesel seemed to be ticked about something more than just it being called fair. He had discussions with both umps about the call before he stormed back to the dugout.

Must have been a heck of a game. Should be a great series between Ryle and the Somerset Briar Jumpers.

I was honestly waiting for the interference call to go Cov Cath's way when the umpires conferenced on the field. Had that happened I think that Coach Roesel would have had an early exit from the ball game...

I couldn't see it from where I was sitting on the third base line, but it sure was close. Reminded me of that Snickers commercial where the umpire has to make the call on the home run down the line, if anyone has seen it???
