Ryle 7 CovCath 6

The Raiders have won 32 games with the pitching they have, no one on the team seems to complain about our pitching. Those who followed the Raiders all year know how they get it done.

Indeed. Raiders may not have any 90 mph flamethrowers (not many people do!), but lots of smart pitchers with good control and a good variety of pitches. They may not strike out 10 batters a game, but there is no need to do so when backed by a defense like Ryle's. They will have some tough challenges in front of them but because they are solid in all phases of the game - pitching, hitting, defense, baserunning, and coaching - they have a very legitimate shot. Gonna be fun . . . .

I like Ryle's chances to go far. I don't know anything about their individual pitching but to score as many runs as they did while usually facing the opponent's top pitcher tells me they'll stay in any game they play.

Had no idea whether the play at the plate was close or not, just providing info for those that might think that he "automatically" gets home. I'm with you, if he dove and even if he was in the process of getting up from a dive I don't think it is obstruction. At this point though I'm just guessing as I have no idea whatsoever as to what happened......just going off other's comments. I will say this....95% of the time the men in blue get it right. (If it was 100% they sure wouldn't be doing HS games!)

OR22 You're right. I would say that about 95% of the time Blue gets it right. Us fans, players, and coaches are fortunate to have the quality that we do behind the plate and out on the bases. Tough calls have to go one way or the other and there's real men that have to make the calls. I wouldn't have wanted to make either "talked about" call from 3rd, they were both close. As it turned out, neither call was consequential to the game as Ryle wasn't done scoring in the seventh with one out anyway. It was one of the most exciting finishes I've seen in HS baseball. Good luck Raiders!:thumb:

We did lose at Dunbar 7-6...but we beat Lexington Christian Academy 1-0.

We've played a very tough schedule and I'm sure the Jumpers will be in a dog fight against Ryle as well.

One things for sure...Somerset will fight till the final out just like Ryle did against Cov Cath.

You better have a good catcher as we've stolen over 150 bases this year. (no joke)

It should be a dandy of a series.

Haven't seen Somerset play, but did see Danville play more than a couple of times, and I just didn't think they were as good as their ranking indicated, so it didn't surprise me to see them lose. In the tourney you need a pitching staff, not just one great pitcher.

As far as having a good catcher, Ryle has a rather good one, not great, but better than HS average, but what you and many don't understand is that you steal on the pitcher not on the catcher. You could have Johnny Bench behind the plate, and if you have a pitcher who doesn't keep a eye on a runner at first, or has a slow delivery to the plate, no matter how wonderful the catcher is, he won't get the runner out at second. What Ryle does have is a couple of Lefty's who while their move to first isn't as good as Ryan of Cov Holy Cross is, (he has one of the best) what they do is keep an eye out, and delivery the ball to the plate quickly, giving their catcher a chance and from the many times I have seen Ryle play, he gets the runners out more times than not. The 150 stolen bases, while they are certainly a high number, I would like to see who you got them against, some teams have been known to steal bases just for the sake or stealing bases, but I am not saying Somerset does, just stating that some stats can be overblown. Of course, if you don't get on, you can't steal second.

Go Raiders win.....

I'm going to assume the pun was intended.;)

I meant to bring up a question the other day and forgot: Why do the CovCath crazies not get involved in baseball? They are so much fun to watch in basketball and I expected to see them in full force at the regional final. The CovCath students seemed passive and that surprised me. The Ryle students really supported their team and I think it helped to build momentum during the incredible rally in the bottom of the 7th.
