Ryle 7 CovCath 6

I was honestly waiting for the interference call to go Cov Cath's way when the umpires conferenced on the field. Had that happened I think that Coach Roesel would have had an early exit from the ball game...

I couldn't see it from where I was sitting on the third base line, but it sure was close. Reminded me of that Snickers commercial where the umpire has to make the call on the home run down the line, if anyone has seen it???

Yes it did...BTW i thought it was interference.

I didn't see if contact was actually made or not, but it seemed like the runner may have tried to avoid the third baseman instead of running directly into him which would have made it more obvious.

Technically, its obstruction and not interference(assuming you thought the defender impeded the progress of the runner).

What exactly happened on the play cshs? I couldn't make the game.....stupid work thing. :irked: Glad to see that the Raiders pulled it out in the waning hours! How about that for "spirit that will never die"? :D

I didnt see the play . Obstruction is the only thing I can think of that Krumps would have been arguing with the 3rd base umpire since the out was recorded at home plate. My guess is that he felt that Vince got in the way of Shane and it slowed him down causing the out.

The Raiders definitely showed a "spirit" in the 7th inning.

We are dealing with kids here, so lets look on the upside. Yeah, Skylar dropped a ball he should have caught, but he kept his head in the game and got the ball back in quickly and limited Ryle to just tying the game when, if he'd gone into a panic, the Raiders could have plated 2 runs and won right there. Stein kept his head in the game and left the Colonels with a shot.

But in the end, Ryle got the timely hits and pulled out the win. Great game and Great season by both teams. Best of luck to the Raiders from here on out.

For the one error that Skylar made in this game, I can recalled at least a hand full or more where he won the game with his bat, glove and or hustle. It happens even to the best....

Great game, just wish I could have seen it...... Good luck Raiders, if the game is moved to Champion I will go, St. Henry with the parking, lack of seating, etc. well.....

Congrats seniors I have enjoyed watching you play so very much.....

Looking forward to watching both Josh and Popham play in college....

Underclassmen, I will be watching a lot of you playing for the Kentucky Colonels this summer. Be like Ryle! They lost in the finals last year, and they hated it so much that they worked their butts off to get better. If you do that this summer, next year, you guy's will be on top.....

Thanks, again to the parents of the players who let me be a part of this wonderful CovCath Baseball family....

Thanks Krumps

Thanks Tom

From what I gather a ball was hit somewhere in the 3B vicinity and the 3B dove attempting to glove the ball. The runner from 2nd(?) then made contact with the fielder. Obviously having some details would help but this in and of itself is not obstruction. As per NFHS 8-3-2:

"a runner is obstructed while advancing or returning to a baseby a fielder than neither has the ball nor is attempting to make a play"

Tough to say without having witnessed the act, sounds like a toughie regardless. It is also entirely possible that the umpire called obstruction but did not feel that the obstruction warranted a 2 base award(3rd and home).

Correct...From my vantage point on the 1st base side I thought Vince got in the runners way, inadvertantly, it would then become a judgement call for the umpire.

IMO Coach Roesel's gripe was that the ump was making the fair ball signal BEFORE he saw where it cleared the fence. Just because the ball is fair when it goes over his head standing at third base doesn't mean it 's not hookig foul before it reaches the fence.

The home plate ump has the calls between third and home. The base ump has the call between third and the fence. I think the home plate ump did a good job of calming the situation.

And yes, I think Coach Roesel would have seen the end of the game from the parking lot if the interference call was reversed. Just my opinion.

Had he dove for the ball? If so, OR is correct that its not obstruction assuming he didn't lay there beyond the normal time to pop up and get out of the way.

Based off the fact that there was a fairly close play at the plate, I'm going to say he did not rule obstruction and protect Pop to 3rd base. For a close play like that , it would be natural to assume that any obstruction could cause him to be out at home and ,thus, rule him safe.

If it was the play as you described, my guess is he ruled that it was a play on the ball by the defender.

"Correct" is that in my judgement he was trying to make a play.

Newport beat Highlands...? Dunbar may be ripe for an upset too.

Newport beat Highlands...?

Welcome, Frank.

Yes, NHS beat HHS in the districts.

In a 3 games series Ryle will be able to compete with anyone. I believe the State Title will be coming back to union this year! Good Luck Raiders!!
