  1. [it's a shame there wasn't any room on the all tournament team for Jake Ashley. He did an outstanding job defensively and handling the pitchers. He has been super all season as well.QUOTE=Theoldguy;4696893]Ninth Region All Tournament team: From Richard Skinner NKy.com All-Tournament Team: Ryle – Mason Forbes (MVP), Tyler Lonnemann, Ethan Brennan, Thomas Baumann Dixie Heights – Garrett Combs, Seth Caple, Ethan Harrison St. Henry – Mitchell Kuebbing, Peter Markgraf Beechwood – Ethan Stringer, Jason Suchanek Highlands – Quinten Murray Covington Catholic – Nico Pangallo Boone County – Trey Ganns Newport Central Catholic – Josh Cain
  2. Ryle puts a lot of pressure on opponent's defense with timely hitting and aggressive base running. Dixie has been playing well. Should get your money's worth on Thursday night.
  3. Slight concussion. Can play Wednesday. One of rules best hitters. They sure would like him in the lineup. Deter so did a good job filling in for him.
  4. Anybody want to comment on the great job Ryle did tonight? Hit the ball good pitching. Good defense.
  5. Coach Roesel got the shaft from the home plate umpirer. He didn't curse, use profanity, throw anything etc. He questioned whether a pitch hit his player and requested that the homeplate umpirer ask the base umpirer for help. The umpirer said "Pat that is your first warning" ( I thought the umpirere were to show some respect by calling the coaches "Coach"). The Coach responded "You can warn me all you want, just call them right". For that he was tossed. The ejection really stems from a prior game that week where the same umpire had a terrible game calling balls and strikes (he knew he was terrible) I believe the ejection was a carry overcall because the situation Saturday did not merit an ejection.
  6. Congrats to Raiders. Ran the bases well, forced the action and made the Cougars make some plays. Just about every base runner was a threat to steal a base. Infield did a super defensive job in both games. Out field covered a lot of ground as well. Reider blocked everthing behind the plate and called a well thought out game. For me, I'd like to play Cov Cath in the first game (can't happen). Escheid vs Isler...pretty good match up.
  7. Hate to see either team loose. Both have worked hard all season . Congrats to Ryle for not dropping their heads when they were down 2-0 or when Boone scored in the 7th to tie the score with 2 outs. Nice dinger by Rieder and nice coaching job by Coach Roesel. Good luck in the regionals
  8. Diamond Dandy can't say it but Garret Wagner has done a terrific job all year of getting on base and getting the bats rolling for Ryle. In over 120 at bats, Garret has less than 10 strike outs. His on base % has to be well over .500. That's the perfect leadoff hitter He also has less than 10 errors for the season. Any college team that lands him will get a real winner.
  9. Ryle bats were alive both nights. There were some real shots in the gaps and the outs were long outs.Hatfield kept it close thru 5 and then Weiss and Collins each got an inning of work to close it out. Garret Wagner got the MVP award. Stroked the ball well both nights and must have scored six or seven of the Ryle runs. Congrats to Coach Roesel and staff. Their hard work and the players hard work have paid dividends. Good luck @ State. Come down and watch on Wednesday evening and make some noise.
  10. Failed to mention Hughes did a nice job of pitching. Forgot for awhile about getting ahead of the hitters but then got back to old form and was in command again. Always nice when you have very good defense and you know you don't have to make the perfect pitch every time AND you know if you keep the score close your teammates' bats will come alive. Good job Ryan.
  11. Somerset scored their first run on a passed third strike with runners on 2nd and 3rd---that hasn't happened very often and though a run didn't score on an attempted walk off, they didn't handle the situation like they normally do. Othr than that, the defense was stellar. The entire lineup just has a confident look at the plate. They will force Somerset to make plays tomorrow night. Don't have any idea what their #2 pitcher is like. I think Coach Roesel will go with Weiss tomorrow and Hatfield and Hughes on Friday if needed. Go Raiders.
  12. Wonder if Somerset is going to stay over or travel back and forth. Lot of driving but maybe better than trying to keep 17 and 18 year olds occupied for two or three days.
  13. IMO Coach Roesel's gripe was that the ump was making the fair ball signal BEFORE he saw where it cleared the fence. Just because the ball is fair when it goes over his head standing at third base doesn't mean it 's not hookig foul before it reaches the fence. The home plate ump has the calls between third and home. The base ump has the call between third and the fence. I think the home plate ump did a good job of calming the situation. And yes, I think Coach Roesel would have seen the end of the game from the parking lot if the interference call was reversed. Just my opinion.
  14. Somerset has a long tradition of really good teams and have a lot of post season experience. What we do not know is how good are their #2 and #3 pitchers which in a three game series is important. Ryle has pitching depth--that is a plus. Home crowd and familiarity with the St Henry playing field is a plus. Sommerset staying in the Holiday Inn and eating Big Macs when Ryle sleeps in their own beds and eats mamma's cooking is a plus. Trying to recharge their psychi after such an emotional win in the regional is a minus. Do the Ryle players think they have accomplished their goal for the year----who knows. Somerset will hit the ball--Ryle will hit the ball--a toss up. Ryle---real good defense Have to assume Somerset has the same. Ryle in three.
  15. Yes, the home run was foul and yes there was inadvertant interference on the other play. The Ryle third baseman had fallen on the attempt to catch the ball, when he was getting to his feet (facing home plate) the second runner had to go around him and there was some contact. The defensive player has the right to get to his feet, that's why any contact was inadvertant. I guess in the end, it's all high school baseball. Just great kids on both sides of the field. They have represented their schools well. Their parents should be proud of them.
  16. Congrats to Coach Roesel and his team. They never gave up, dropped their head nor went thru the motions. This attitude comes from the top down. Their hard, dedicated work paid off tonight. They will represent our region well.
  17. Ryle's Roessel should have been named coach of the year. He has done a super job wiht that program.
  18. Ryle's Roessel should have been named coach of the year. He has done a great job with their program.
  19. If you think the region is weak, your future coaching better be in tennis or golf because you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to baseball. I guess Ryle should have scored the ten runs in the first two innings.
  20. the Raiders plaed Raider baseball today---force the other team to make plays---the Panthers were not up to the task. Weiss was tough. The Raiders hit and ran the bases well today. Didn't need a lot of defense with Weiss stricking out nine. The best team won
  21. Always fun to play at Windows but it takes a little of the reward away for winning the district. In the past, the district winner played the first round of the regional at home. I liked that arrangement better.
  22. Ryle played solid defense and hit the ball pretty good. Got a very good pitching performance from Jeff Hatfield. His curve ball was breaking down and kept the Conner hitters off balance---only gave up three hits. Only some shoddy base running kept it form being a complete victory. The Conner pitcher stepped up in a difficult situation and did the best he could but had to rely on the fast ball to get strikes.
