Ryle 5 Conner 1

Final..

Behind a real nice pitching performance by Kyle Donovan Ryle wins the 33rd District Championship.

Ryle gets to Samad early who comes out of the game with what seems like a arm issue. They then play the type of baseball that has guided them in winning 10 of their last 12 games, and both of those losses were by 1 run. Excellent pitching, solid defense, and some timely hitting has been their M.O. and they did it tonight to pull out the victory. Donovan kept Conner's big hitters off balance for the whole game and Cody Meier again comes up big with a 3-3 performance in route to being named District Tournament MVP. Off to the regional tournament at CWF.

Congrats Raiders. See you all on Monday for a complete day of baseball.

Good job by the Raiders. Certainly did not see them winning the district but they really handed it to the Cougars today. Good luck in the region.

I certainly missed this game. :notworthy:

Conner never seemed to be "in to it" from the start. Ryle seemed to want it more. I thought Shuttlesworth may pitch this game. I did see him throw about 4-5 pitches in the bullpen in the middle of the game and then he went back to the dugout. This could very well be a one-and-done regional for the Cougars. Plus, they now have a 1 in 3 chance of drawing Cov-Cath in the first round.

Donovan pitched an outstanding game, keeping a very good hitting Conner team off balance. My question is, where is Shuttleworth? He is one of only 4 seniors in the region that will be playing Division 1 baseball next year. So, Conner loses the District Championship game and a 1 seed in the Regional Tournament without ever having this left handed pitcher throw a single pitch?

If Samad has an arm issue this could hurt them in the regionals

Did Conner underachieve this year?

I would say that is a fair statement to this point. They have a losing record and were favored to win the district. A strong performance at regionals could erase memories of a disappointing season to this point.

I think if the big Conner hitters can step up they could make some noise at champion window

Samad will be fine. He was under the weather all week.

Congrats to Raiders. Ran the bases well, forced the action and made the Cougars make some plays. Just about every base runner was a threat to steal a base.

Infield did a super defensive job in both games. Out field covered a lot of ground as well. Reider blocked everthing behind the plate and called a well thought out game.

For me, I'd like to play Cov Cath in the first game (can't happen). Escheid vs Isler...pretty good match up.

The catcher for Ryle is Cody Meier, unless he is hurt and there is another Rieder, Cory Rieder graduated last year.
