  1. No doubt about it, Cov Cath wins by run rule in 5 innings!!!
  2. I agree, Tyler Brake is, easily, one of the best pure hitters in the state!!!
  3. Going into the season, Shuttleworth was absolutely Conner's #1 pitcher. After tearing he hamstring just prior to the season opener, Juniors Samad, Russell and West steped and did a great job. It was kind of fitting with yesterday being Memorial Day that Shuttleworth (a Naval Academy signee) had such a dominate outing.
  4. Shuttleworth went 5 & 1/3 gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and must of had 9 or 10 Ks. Russell finished 1 & 2/3 innings with no hits and no runs. It was great to see Shuttleworth back on the mound and in complete control.
  5. Donovan pitched an outstanding game, keeping a very good hitting Conner team off balance. My question is, where is Shuttleworth? He is one of only 4 seniors in the region that will be playing Division 1 baseball next year. So, Conner loses the District Championship game and a 1 seed in the Regional Tournament without ever having this left handed pitcher throw a single pitch?
  6. Conner Ryle Dixie St. Henry Cov Cath Holy Cross Highlands Bellevue
  7. This thread says Smith has a broken eye socket and is done for the year, another thread says xrays were fine and he will be back. Does anyone have any confirmed information on the real story.
  8. Thomas Noll is an outstanding young man. I'm sure he will do great things at the University of Cumberland. Congradulations to both him and his parents.
  9. District seed game today to decide District 33's number one seed. Game was continued from a previous rain delayed game. Game resumed top of second inning with Conner at bat and leading 4-0. Samad started for Conner, Deno for Boone. Both teams hit the ball well all day. Conner's defense was outstanding, however once again had some base running blunders that cost a few runs. Boone had a few infield errors. Samad didn't seem as sharp as usual but pitched well enough to maintain the lead. Russel finished the game retiring all 6 batters he faced in the 6th and 7th innings. Pugh, Brake, West, Gill and Roberts carried most of the offense for Conner. Final seeding for 33rd District Play: #1 Conner plays winner of #4 Cooper vs #5 Heritage #2 Boone Co. vs #3 Ryle.
  10. With all of Conner's top pitchers available (Samad, Russel and even Shuttleworth for a couple of innings) I'll take Conner with the 4-0 lead.
  11. 1st base - Tyler Brake from Conner. Outstanding 1st baseman. 510 ba, 4 hrs, 20+ rbis. One of if not the best pure hitters in the region. If Conner's 1 and 2 men in the order had better on base percentage he'd be slugging it out with Darner for the region rbi lead.
  12. The Conner/Boone game will be a continuation from the district seed game from a couple of weeks ago that was rain delayed. Top of the second, Conner batting and ahead 4-0.
  13. Conner finally shows it can hit against good pitching. Pugh had multiple hits, Brake hit well, as usual, and was intentionally walked a couple of times. Noll also hit well and was intentionally walked. Gill, Roberts and West did a great job getting on base. It was especially nice to see Shuttleworth starting to get healthy. He had multiple extra base hits and either 4 or 5 rbis as the DH. All this was done against Ryle's ace, Eschied. Samad and Russell did a great job on the mound. Samad allows one run in each the 1st, 2nd and 6th. Russell pitches a scoreless 7th for the save.
  14. Great job AJ. Now maybe people will stop wondering if he is one of the top pitchers in the 9th.
  15. You are also absolutely right, overall, Ross did not really pitch very well. But did he pitch well enough to not give up any runs in that inning? He certainly did. How many times have you seen a pitcher struggle in the first inning and then settle down and do fine? I'm not saying that would have happened, but by the second baseman missing that popup Ross never got the chance. Instead, the inning continued with Cov Cath's best hitters coming up with men on base.
  16. I was at this game. Ross came in and faced the bottom half of the lineup. After 2 outs, 2 walks and a batter HBP he had bases loaded with Seimer up. He has to get this man out so that he won't be facing Malle, Darner and Isler. He pitches well enough to get Seimer to hit an infield pop up to the second baseman. If not for the error that occured, he is out of the inning without giving up any runs. There is no doubt that Malle and Darner did hit him extremely hard. The runs are unearned because an error with 2 outs means all further runs are unearned because the pitcher should be out of the inning.
  17. Let's start by saying Cov Cath out played Conner in all aspects of the game. They pitched better, they hit better and they fielded better. The statement was definately by Isler that he, right now, is the best pitcher in the 9th region. He was not untouchable, but when Conner could get runners on base, they hit into 2 or 3 double plays. Conner's pitching really couldn't match Isler's. Shuttleworth is still out. Samad pitched in Conner's district seeding game on Monday vs Boone. That left Noll or West. Ross came on in relief in the 5th, and this was his first appearence on the mound this season. In fact, he was just cleared to play Monday after surgery last week on his right hand. Conner also needed to think of this weekend's games against Lex Cath, West Jessamine and Boyd Co. All this added up to a very thin pitching staff. One last note. All 7 of the runs given up by Ross in the 5th were unearned.
  18. Will Shuttleworth (Conner) is also still out with an injury and should be up there by the end of the season. He, as well, is a D1 signee with Navy.
  19. Obviously, not breaking a sweat in the NCC game did effect him. As he admittedly did not have much in his tank. IMO Nutini just getting over being sick is not a good enough reason to have Isler throw 91 pitches on 2 days rest. If this pitching staff is as deep as you all say, it was a great opportunity to have a younger, less experienced kid get some quality innings against one of the better hitting teams in the region.
  20. What should be taken from this game is the fact that Isler pitched 6 innings. If pitching is truly a CCH strength, then why did Isler throw 91 pitches on 2 days rest in just the second week of the season? You would think CCH would have had plenty of other pitchers to use in the game since the tournament was cancelled and thus this game really didn't mean that much.
