Ryle 4 Dixie Heights 0 (9th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

Final. Great season for both teams. Congrats to Ryle and it really looked like they enjoyed playing the game together. Fine pitching performance by junior Ethan Brennan with a complete game 3-hitter. I don't remember an error as both teams looked very sharp on defense. Dixie did a super job with a young team. Best wishes to Ryle at state.

Great couple of days of outstanding high school baseball and many from NKy most of thought so also, as I was told around 5,400 people attended the three days of games at the UC Medical Center Stadium.

Thanks to the host team Dixie Heights, Mr. and Mrs. Brown owners of the Florence Freedom, the men in Blue, the players and coaches of all the teams of the Ninth Region whether they made it to the Region or not and to the fans who showed up in such great numbers.

Ryle BTW will play Harrison County at Whitaker Bank Field in Lexington, Ky on Tuesday June 4th at 6pm.

Bring home the Trophy Ryle, as all of NKy is rooting for you!

Tough row to hoe when you're playing in a stadium named for your opponent's coach. :D

Ryle do us all proud!!!!!!

so excited to see so many of my friends represent down state...Mason Forbes, Justin Hoard, Colt Cordrey and Thomas Baumann, all of whom played with my son on several teams growing up....so proud of you all and I hope your parents enjoy this ride. Do us all proud and bring home a ring!!!!!!!

I am so very proud of the boys from Union, Ky. It is only the second time in 21 years that Ryle has gone to the State Tournament in baseball. The last time was in 2007. Let's keep it going for 4 more games and bring the hardware to NKY this year!!! GO RAIDERS!!!!!

Ninth Region All Tournament team: From Richard Skinner NKy.com

All-Tournament Team:

Ryle – Mason Forbes (MVP), Tyler Lonnemann, Ethan Brennan, Thomas Baumann

Dixie Heights – Garrett Combs, Seth Caple, Ethan Harrison

St. Henry – Mitchell Kuebbing, Peter Markgraf

Beechwood – Ethan Stringer, Jason Suchanek

Highlands – Quinten Murray

Covington Catholic – Nico Pangallo

Boone County – Trey Ganns

Newport Central Catholic – Josh Cain

Congrats to the Raiders as they pull the rare feat of winning the Region as the favorite. Well deserved and good luck down state.

First, congratulations to Pat Roesel, his staff, and team for winning the 9th region. It's not an easy feat to accomplish but they pulled together and took care of business. I hope to see the Ryle Raiders represent the ninth and come back with a state championship trophy.

Second, I want to thank Dixie seniors Garrett Combs, Eric Elkus and Casey Cox for the years of hard work and dedication they have given to the Colonels baseball program. You three played your hearts out and left it all on the field. As you move on to bigger and better things your contributions, and you, will be remembered by the coaching staff and remaining players. Thank you!!

Finally, congratulations to the entire Dixie team on a very successful season. At the beginning of the year you weren't even predicted to make it to the regional tournament, much less to the regional finals. The year didn't get off to the best start but you kept working and gelling before playing like a team capable of anything. You shocked a lot of people with your play and put Dixie Heights on the watch list in the 9th for the next few years. Keep working in the offseason and come back next year even stronger to prove this run wasn't a fluke. Great job boys!

I read into the exact same way...

Congrats to Ryle and good luck in Sectionals but your work is just starting.

I read somewhere in another thread that Harrison has won 21(give or take a few) Region Titles and my guess the very next opponent was the 9th Region winner.

I would rather not see the W-L record in this game as HC has had a knack of causing problems and winning the majority of those contests. Perhaps TOG or one of the other baseball gurus could post this.

Good luck to Ryle...:thumb:

Hats off and a big Hoorah to the 2013 Ryle Raiders. As predicted by some yet scoffed by others they played as a team and claimed the 9th Region Championship title. Early polls certainly did not reflect the talent, dedication and hard work that this team puts toward the game. Their current 32-7 record is a far cry better than the ‘might make it over .500’ claims early on in the season.

Great job to ALL of the players and to the coaches for a job well done. Whether you’re an everyday player, bullpen catcher, designated hitter, pinch/courtesy runner, relief pitcher, guy that keeps the book or younger guy awaiting your chance to get in the game… you all are part of the TEAM we calls Ryle Raiders! Your work is not done. The 32-7 record is now reset to 0-0 with the rest of the Regional Champs. Continue doing what you’re doing and hopefully you will realize your dream. This is something you will remember the rest of your life. #RTS #RWS (Ryle Win State)

Congratulations and best wishes to all of the other 9th Region teams. This is one tough region with many talented teams, players and coaches. Each and every team is certainly capable of beating one another 'any given day.'

This got me to thinking of the 2000's and how the favorites did. Don't have any before that, wasn't around at the time.

Year Favorite Result

2000 CCH won region

2001 CCH lost in finals

2002 CCH won region

2003 Boone(big run at end year) won region

2004 ? Beechwood won region

2005 Beechwood lost in finals to CCh

2006 Beechwood won region

2007 Ryle/CCH Ryle beat CCH in finals

2008 CCH? lost in finals

2009 CCH lost in finals

2010 ? Boone Boone won

2011 Dixie lost in finals

2012 CCH lost in 1st rd

Congrats to Ryle and small ball sure won last night. Few hits, move them over and sac flys. Slow death. Congrats to Max also. Was kind of pulling for him to get one.

Can anyone tell me why Ryle was the home team?

I assume you ask since both won their districts. I'd say that where you drew as far as the bracket determined that ie upper bracket is home bottom bracket is visitor.

Ryle lost their District Championship. I couldn't think of any reason why Dixie wouldn't have been the home team.
