Ryle 6 Boone County 3

Featured Replies

Final

A terrific game played by both teams...excellent pitchers duel between Etscheid and Deno. No scoring until the bottom of the fifth when Boone gets on the board with a homerun, walk, passed ball, and another single, they go up 2-0. Ryle comes back and gets 1 in the top of the sixth. Ryle in the top of the 7th plates two with some defensive miscues, a hit by Carney down the right field line scoring Imai (bobbled allowing him to take 2nd), and then another hit by Lonkard scoring Carney. Boone comes back in the bottom of the frame and scores with a runner on second and a two out line drive that got through Hempel at 3rd. In the top of the 8th, Cody Meier with a fairly severe injured hand hits a 3 run homer over the right center field fence to give Ryle a 6-3 lead. Etscheid comes out to complete his 8th inning of work to seal the win.

Congratulations to Boone on a excellent season. As I have said before on BGP, the way some districts worked out this year almost makes it unfair for Boone not to be able to play another day as they are no doubt one of the top teams in the ninth.

Good for Logan Carney. You like to see good kids have success.

Congrats to Ryle.

Great game David Etscheid, and Logan Carney. Great kids, outstanding parents.

Hate to see either team loose. Both have worked hard all season . Congrats to Ryle for not dropping their heads when they were down 2-0 or when Boone scored in the 7th to tie the score with 2 outs. Nice dinger by Rieder and nice coaching job by Coach Roesel. Good luck in the regionals

Boy was I wrong. I thought Boone would win handily by 4. Congrats to the Raiders on hanging in to win a game they probably should not have won. I think they only had one hit (and that was on a Boone misplay) until the sixth inning and did not hit the ball well at all until Boone switched pitchers. Deno and Etscheid were very good and both deserved to win. Boone made key mistakes and cost themselves a trip to the region. Ryle played excellent defense all day except for one miscue. They deserved to win in the final analysis. Good luck to the Raiders.

You are correct that Deno pitched a great game (he is not overpowering by any means, but crafty), Ryle actually had two hits through the fifth. From what I recall, Boone also only had only 3 hits through the 5th, two of them in that inning, a homer and a single. I wouldn't be so sure it wasn't a game that Ryle shouldn't have won. Check Ryle's schedule against the top teams in the state and then attempt to make that statement. Yes, overall they don't hit the ball consistently (may end up being their downfall) but they do everything else extremely well, and it keeps them in most games even against the top teams.

Point well taken. Boone's schedule was not nearly as demanding as was the Ryle schedule. Good luck to the Raiders. As I already stated, they deserved to win in the final analysis. Good nite.

Congrats to Boone also on an excellent season. Baseball is a funny game and the hardest of the three major sports to predict. Good luck to Ryle also the rest of the way. Special congrats to Boone new coach this year, Coach Huff. He had some doubters and although they didn't get to the region like they are expected, and he had a lot of talent, I think he proved and will continue to prove in the years to come he is a quality coach and a quality Man.

Boone's Deno and Ryle's Donovan are very similar. Both are very nice pitchers and perfect examples that you can be an extremely effective high school pitcher without throwing in the 80+ mph range. Too many kids (and parents) are too caught up in how hard someone throws. Keep the ball down, mix up your pitches, and stay ahead of hitters and you can throw in the 70's a be a very good high school pitcher. Gets a lot tougher at the college level to succeed with that fastball speed, but it's plenty enough in high school. Both these kids are going to be very successful next year as seniors.
