I compeltly agree, and no by no means am I close to the situation, It is his fault for making this terrible decision, but in no ways does it make him a criminal or a felon. Even more, this by no ways gives his parents justice as they have done all they can to raise him the proper way. People need to grow up and think if this is how they would react if it was their own kids or family members in this situation, The sad thing is if he wasn't an athelte, this story would not be anywhere as big as it is.

 

Yes, it does. He stole 7 guns in a robbery, that makes him a criminal. I don't care what kind of a kid he is/was, he is over 18 and committed a crime, he's a criminal.

Not an excuse, but where he grows up isn't that easy of a place to stay out of trouble. This doesn't make him a horrible person, he screwed up. Even if the law says he's an adult, he's still a kid. Its very eerie seeing someone I have competed against for the past 9 years with a mugshot on Channel 9. I hope this doesn't ruin his life, and he learns from this and makes something out of himself

Not saying what he did isn't that bad, because it definitely is. I just feel sorry for him because this stupid decision could/probably will ruin his life.

The only thing that surprised me by this news was his listed age of 19.

 

A stupid mistake isn't getting arrested for one offense while police are investigating another. I'd call that being a criminal.

 

A stupid mistake isn't stealing GUNS. If a 19-year-old senior wants to steal the Bulldog mascot costume as a prank, or take some snack food for a graduation party, that's a stupid mistake, we can all live with. Nobody steals guns without intent to either use them, or sell them to someone who intends to use them.

Y'know, I'm not even surprised. During the 9th Region Championship game against CovCath, I turned to my brother and said, "This senior Bulldog class really needs to win this game or else they'll all be in jail within two years with the exception of Austin Hill". I was really feeling the life or death consequences of this game more than any game that I had ever witnessed. If they had not made it to state after having worked for it their entire lives, I felt that they were more vulnerable for a downward spiral than the average high school team. CovCath could certainly afford to lose the game and get on with their lives without batting an eyelash. Holmes, on the other hand, is quite a different story. So they win, and I breathe a sigh of relief that their futures were looking brighter than if they had lost. So Jefferson goes and screws up anyway, perhaps ruining his future all in one day. The reason I am not surprised is not related to me stereotyping him, but a reaction to having seen him play ball for 4 years and he never seeming to grow up all the while. His game face and reaction to ref calls stayed in a constant mode of poor sportsman like attitude. After ruining the Bulldog's chances his junior year against Dixie in the 1st round of the Regional tournament by getting a game changing 'T' called on him for crying about a called foul, you would've have thought that he'd come back his senior year trying to control this. If he did, I never saw it. I've never been impressed by him and never thought that he could amount to much at the next level. I think that at UK he'd be expected to perform on and off the field. I could never see that happening. Maybe he couldn't either and decided to aviod the task by tossing it all away without actually saying "I quit". At least this way he still looks 'BAD' to his buddies. With him, I think that's all that matters anyway. His future buddies won't find him to be 'BAD', they will see him as fresh and young. Maybe I sound harsh, but if he's willing to stick his neck out and do something so utterly stupid and criminal such as this, then he deserves all the negative feedback that he's going to get. He's certainly old enough to know the consequences of his actions and to throw it all away like this is beyond foolish. The only good that can come from any of this is that UK doesn't have to bothered by him or the potential of any of his future bad decisions. Hopefully, at least others around him will think twice before behaving like criminals and they can save themselves the trouble that he has put himself into.

Wow unless you know any of the Bulldog seniors pesonally, Jefferson included, I think you need to re think what you're saying. We all know Duran made a dumb mistake and most likely threw away his future, but to say the regional championship game was a life changing game and they NEEDED to win that game in order to have a successful future is an overstatement.

 

And out of the 4 seniors that Holmes had this year, Jefferson is the only one not going to college. All three of the others are, so don't classify all in the same group with Duran. Don't think I'm trying to back him up cuz I certainly am not. I just feel unless you know specifics and have inside sources about him and his family you have no right to pass judgement.

 

We all know Duran needs to grow up and making comments like you knew he'd never amount to anything is flat out disrespectful to not only him but also his parents who actually kept a close eye on him and did all they could to raise him properly, but parents can only do so much and once a kid turns 18 and becomes an adult they no longer have the same power that they once did. He just couldn't handle the freedom and fell in with wrong crowd on the wrong day, plain and simple.

I say this is might end up being the one of the better things that ever happen to Duran Jefferson. He now has a chance to make change. After watching kids in high school grow over four years and mature, I can say I never thought Duran was maturing. He seemed to be always making bad decisions on and off the court. The way he treated players, coaches, and officials on the floor was dissapointing to me.

 

I feel bad for Duran and understand he lives in a tough enviroment, but this can't be an excure nor a reason for making bad decisions. People can make it out of Covington, it comes down to choices. Duran was very close to being very successful in life, but this charge isn't armed robbery, isn't murder, or anything to that degree. He'll get a small sentence and have probably have to due some time. But in the end hopefully he learns and becomes a better man for this. I don't want him to turn out like Chris Henry and 4 years down the road be dealing with the same things he Henry is.

Maybe DJ was "the people" as well. One robbery is a serious problem, two robberies seems to show that its a pattern. You then have to ask yourself if the police just got lucky and arrested him the ONLY two times he robbed someone. What are the odds?

No excuse, but Covington has some tough areas. I lived there for 2 years myself. Basically alot of crime in these areas. Really its what you make of it though. Tough situation and one day he'll regreat it, but I guess everone has to live and learn. Everyone makes mistakes.
