"Handpicked" KHSAA Committee Is A Sham

Board of Control voted not to support Prop 20 which was past overwhelmingly by the membership of the KHSAA and send it to the KY BOE without their support against the wishes of the members of the KHSAA. They disregarded the wishes of the membership of the KHSAA.

The KY BOE sent it back to the BOC and said, you don't want us to act on this.

Where am I confused on the manner it occurred?

The BOC and KHSAA membership is bicameral by its very nature. The Board of Education is one unit. If the U.S. Senate refused to pass a law sent to it by the U.S. House, you would not say, "they ignored the wishes of the people." However, if the Chairman of the Board of a corporation ignored a resolution passed by his Board, you WOULD say that he went beyond the pale.

leatherneck,

Thank you for making that simple for our members that were having trouble understanding this is apples and oranges and therefore there is not any hypocrisy.

Now, we need to get back to the topic, does the committee process pass the smell test or does it stink to high heaven?

I can hardly handle the stench here in the 'Ville.

You'd have to suffer from asnomia for this to pass a smell test.

Is anyone on this thread really surprised? I'm not.

They should clean house and start from scratch. These people amaze me. Are they living in the stone ages and think this information isn't going to become public?

Oh..the smell has made it's way to Oldham County...and it's bad!

When you say this, who are you talking about Bird?

no one with a private school background...

Jane Adams Venters I believe, went to a private school, I would think that would give her a private school background.

What do you expect from a body that won't spend money to hire investigators because it may show something they don't want to know? Life is easier when they don't have to make decisions or explain actions.

The investigations also may show the complaints are unfounded but I do agree with your basic point and that is if KHSAA/BOE/BOC (whoever would be responsible) refuses to commit the necessary resources to competent investigations of ALL complaints then they are more a part of the problem than the solution.

I'd start with those on the payroll, and go from there.

This was once a credible organization. No reason it's can't get back to that.

I will admit, my opinion is based on the actions of a few, but you know what they say about the company you keep. If no one at the KHSAA thinks that what Travis or Noland is telling people about nominees is wrong, shame on them. Someone needs to step up and clean house. And if they're afraid to clean their own house, someone needs to do it for them.

My .02 worth.

I think they should let me be on this committee!! :D

Thanks, 87Bird, I appreciate it because your post seemed to represent the feelings of others and I wanted to address this. Here is the thing, I'm confused as to what role the KHSAA has played in this. There seems to be a lot of venom towards them, but is that where it belongs?

If I understand this correctly, Travis and Noland are employed by the KY BOE and not the KHSAA. The BOE sent reccomendations for their nominations to Travis and Noland, but Travis and Noland ignored them. Instead they hand picked their own choices for nomination to the committee, which they will submit to the full BOE for a vote.

I don't see the KHSAA's blame here. Unless we are saying the KHSAA interfered with or used undue influence on Travis and Noland to stack the deck with the committee? If so, that is a pretty serious accusation or assumption.

Watusi, I stand corrected. Thanks for keeping me straight.

If found guilty of truly doing this, start with Travis and/or Noland at the KY BOE, and then let the committee take care of cleaning up the KHSAA.

Noland is only acting Commissioner so it will be interesting to see what side of things Barbara Erwin falls down on. One of the knocks on her is that she knows nothing about Kentucky, so two will get you one that she rubber stamps what they obviously tried to get pushed through before her arrival.

These might be really dumb questions, but I've never closely followed the politics of KHSAA.

But, why was this new committee needed? It would seem to me that there have to be major issues going on that people want addressed, other wise why would it exist? What are these specific issues of the KHSAA that need to be auditied or investigated?

Why is it so relevant that no Northern KY representation exist? What is the fear? Are you simply upset that you were excluded or is it that there is a specific issue that you feel is being pushed aside by this exclusion?

Frankly from what little I know, I would think an auditor group would best come from outside the state all together.
