Sold a $7 ticket for $8. The judge said, "Son, you are not very industrious everyone else was selling them for $25 or $30. Dismissed and don't waste my time with cases like this again."
May 19, 200719 yr You all are right, the Police Officer was probably wrong in the charge, she more that likely should have been cited for holding the left lane, which is a valid charge, and one that should be written more. It kills me when I get on the interstate and there is a line of traffic and you see a car (usually from Ohio or Mich) holding the left lane doing 71 MPH.....IF she was holding the left lane I applaud the ticket. Sorry just my opinion.

Police officers are not judges, they enforce the law they do not interprete it, that is the judges job. He the judge chose not to follow the letter of the law that is his decision, but the police officer did the right thing. The citation was valid unless you can show in the law where it is Okay to sell a ticket for one dollar over face value. Failure to enforce the law when sworn to do so is a bad thing......Police officers can't win with anybody.
May 19, 200719 yr The only reason I can think of is that you are actually only supposed to drive in the left hand lane just to pass a slow moving vehicle.:thumb: Bingo, that was more than likely the reason. I don't know how often it happens here in KY, but I've known a handful of people that had this happen to them in Tennessee.
May 19, 200719 yr Sounds like the cop was having a bad day and decided to take it out on your sister. People driving slow in the passing lane gets on my nerves but if your sister had just turned onto that road I can't understand why she would have been ticketed.

Can you imagine what would happen if every police officer strictly enforced every law every minute of every day? Would anyone be left?

May 20, 200719 yr Left lanes are passing lanes but it's a stupid ticket. They RECOMMEND you go 5 under the speed limits at all times. I would consider contesting it.
May 21, 200719 yr I did not think it was against the law, only a courtesy. I get angry everyday on I275 in NKY by the Airport. I think it is a public(private) dragstrip for local and out of area cops. I guess the out of area cops come that way to pick up and drop of at the Boone County jail. But you can see them and the county cops passing you like you are standing still and I am am already doing 70 to 75. Then my daughter ,who just got her permit, asks why are they allowed to do that? I tell her because they do what they want who is going to stop them.
May 21, 200719 yr Unless this was a federally funded "campaign" there are no such things as quotas. What do you mean by "federally funded campaign"? An Alexandria police officer just told me today that their chief as mandated quotas.

My bestfriend is an Independence police officer, another good friend is an airport officer. Some cities are laid back some are sticklers. They use the money to help purchase equipment for the department and other city related departments.
May 21, 200719 yr Luckily I avoided a ticket tonight. The elders of our community have complained about rolling stops. I (one of the culprits), rolled through a stop sign, and just as I do, I look to my right and sitting there is a Boone County mountie, I knew I was cooked. He pulls me over, all I have is my liscense, my expired by 20 days insurance card and no registration (just recently came from Frankfort since I bought the car about 3 months ago. He said he would have to write a citation and I figured my lucks been pretty poor for the past few months, no big deal, just a little more adversity. My wife says but we live right there, and he says I can't allow you to leave the car, you may bring back an "uzi", I thought that was pretty funny. At that point he takes my stuff back to his car and while this is happening a commercial comes on stating how police are looking to write tickets for not "buckling up", that was also pretty funny considering the timing. He let me go, I guess positive things are in my future now.

(1) The operator of any vehicle when upon a highway shall travel upon the right side of the highway whenever possible, and unless the left side of the highway is clear of all other traffic or obstructions for a sufficient distance ahead to permit the overtaking and passing of another vehicle to be completed without interfering with the operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle being overtaken. The overtaking vehicle shall return to the proper traffic lane as soon as practicable and, if the passing vehicle enters the oncoming traffic lane, before coming within two hundred (200) feet of any approaching vehicle. (2) The operator of any vehicle moving slowly upon a highway shall keep his vehicle as closely as practicable to the right-hand boundary of the highway, allowing more swiftly moving vehicles reasonably free passage to the left.
