nees1212 Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 My sister just got a ticket for 'lack of' speeding. She was ticketed for going 52 in a 55 driving in the left hand lane of a two lane road. I have to laugh at her, but come on. Is the cop basically saying it's OK to speed in the fast lane?
nWo Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Are you talking about two lanes going in the same direction?
nees1212 Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Are you talking about two lanes going in the same direction? Yes. It does sound funny the way I stated it. Technically it's a 4 lane road, but there's a huge grass median in the middle that's probably as wide as 3 lanes.
Wireman Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 That's awesome. The only thing that would've been better is if she would've been arrested for driving sober.
nWo Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 The only reason I can think of is that you are actually only supposed to drive in the left hand lane just to pass a slow moving vehicle.
SvFan4life Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 ^ That's what I was thinking. If a car in the slow lane is going 55mph and there is a car beside of it going 52mph then it's going to hold up traffic. Since the car in the slow lane is doing what they are supposed to it is right to pull over the slow car in the passing lane. Maybe should have just gave a warning but maybe the cop hasn't met his quota yet! haha

She said she was worried to go over the speed limit and couldn't get over as they apparently just turned onto the road.
nWo Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 She said she was worried to go over the speed limit and couldn't get over as they apparently just turned onto the road.Did she just make a left turn onto the road in question or a right turn?
nees1212 Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Did she just make a left turn onto the road in question or a right turn? Left. Two lanes turn left onto the two lanes of the road she got the ticket on.
nWo Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 If she had just made a left turn onto the road I can't understand why she got a ticket. It seems to me she made a proper turn and she has to have time to get up to speed.
NEERFAN Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 That's the first I've ever heard of a ticket being issued for going 3 miles slower than the limit.
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 I had always heard that you weren't allowed to be in that lane and go under the speed limit. With that said, pretty ridiculous to be just 3 under and get a ticket. Good to know there weren't any REAL bad drivers on the road to take care of.
BoondockSaint Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Talk about a cop needing to meet his quotas... I wonder if he's ever given a ticket to someone going 58 in the right hand lane.:creepy:

BoondockSaint Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Unless this was a federally funded "campaign" there are no such things as quotas. :thumb: Thanks for clearing that up, I thought about that part before I posted it because I didn't know if they were real or not but you get the gist of the point point I was making.
