May 21, 200719 yr Luckily I avoided a ticket tonight. The elders of our community have complained about rolling stops. I (one of the culprits), rolled through a stop sign, and just as I do, I look to my right and sitting there is a Boone County mountie, I knew I was cooked. He pulls me over, all I have is my liscense, my expired by 20 days insurance card and no registration (just recently came from Frankfort since I bought the car about 3 months ago. He said he would have to write a citation and I figured my lucks been pretty poor for the past few months, no big deal, just a little more adversity. My wife says but we live right there, and he says I can't allow you to leave the car, you may bring back an "uzi", I thought that was pretty funny. At that point he takes my stuff back to his car and while this is happening a commercial comes on stating how police are looking to write tickets for not "buckling up", that was also pretty funny considering the timing. He let me go, I guess positive things are in my future now. No valid proof of insurance and no registration? How you didn't get a court date is a MIRACLE.
May 21, 200719 yr Hmmmmm......I don't see anything where it gives the officer any discrection. Officers use discretion every single day whether it's legally provided to them or not and I'm quite glad they do.
May 21, 200719 yr Author Was this a limited access highway? It doesn't sound like it. She was on 17. From my understanding, she just turned left onto the new section from the old there by Summit View. The cop pulled behind her at the light. The light changed, they turned. She stayed at 55 according to her speedo along with the car next to her. According to her, you couldn't squeeze a car between her and the cop. The cop finally turned his lights about a mile down the road and pulled her over.
May 21, 200719 yr No valid proof of insurance and no registration? How you didn't get a court date is a MIRACLE. He apparently called the 800 number on my insurance card to prove I was still current, and I guess since I told him the car was a new purchase, plus I told him I purchase from a dealer he must have checked the sticker on my plates proving I had paid for registration. I may be lucky but since I've had nothing but bad luck in every other aspect of life lately I guess the percentages had to go the other way.

"No, ma'am, that's the route number, you're on highway 25E." He noticed the women in the back were still shaking. "Ladies, relax, this is just a warning. No one is in trouble and I'm not writing a ticket." Finally one spoke up in a trembling voice "But officer, you don't understand. We're on our way back from Harlan. We just spent the past 40 miles on route 119!"

(1) The operator of any vehicle when upon a highway shall travel upon the right side of the highway whenever possible, and unless the left side of the highway is clear of all other traffic or obstructions for a sufficient distance ahead to permit the overtaking and passing of another vehicle to be completed without interfering with the operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle being overtaken. The overtaking vehicle shall return to the proper traffic lane as soon as practicable and, if the passing vehicle enters the oncoming traffic lane, before coming within two hundred (200) feet of any approaching vehicle. (2) The operator of any vehicle moving slowly upon a highway shall keep his vehicle as closely as practicable to the right-hand boundary of the highway, allowing more swiftly moving vehicles reasonably free passage to the left. May 30, 200719 yr Lack of Speed tickets?? It's a wonder my dad hadn't got one these. When I was 18 he'd go 45 in 55 zone now at age 72 he's really slowed down to 25-30 in a 55 zone. I try to dry him as much as I can, and he says "Are you going to a fire?" I said I'm doin' the speed limit.
