I'll be in the Infield tomorrow.

To me it was basically a fashion show or a GQ photoshoot. I think there was some kind of side event besides the fashion show, it looked to be something dealing with men riding what seemed to be large dogs in a circle. I was too blinded by pink button ups and light blue suits to tell.

 

I understand some people love to dress up for events like this. Not me. I don't wear khakis and a tucked in button up unless someone is getting married or someone died. It's summer, it's too hot to be in that kind of junk.

 

 

Maybe the Rooster fights would be a better gambling sport for you!!!!! Probably won't see any suits there!!!!! :D :D

With a name like TaterSalad I'd guess you've seen your share of rooster fights. I'd actually like to go to the Derby one year. A couple of my buddies went a few years back and had a great time. I usually go to some type of Derby party and play some cornhole and watch it on TV. In a pink and light blue suit....:thumb:

I went to the infield my senior year of high school...1970. IF I get to go again I want to go on Millionaires Row...well I can dream can't I....:lol:

Unlike 2C I am a people watcher...love the crowds and who is wearing what...yes, millionaires row for me...

 

Tomorrow I will be watching the Derby on TV...:cry:

I have a liter of Mint Juleps in my fridge right now letting the flavors "marry" as they say. Should make for good times all around tomorrow!

I have to attend my niece's 1st communion at 2pm then we will head back for the Derby and later in the evening the DeLaHoya/PBFloyd fight.

I will be working. :irked:

I could have went to the Derby but there isn't a snow balls chance that I would have gone. I am not fond of large crowds, those hateful green potties, and being out in that heat or rain all day. So I will stay at home and watch it on TV. I love watching the people and seeing the hats. I will stand up when they play my Old Kentucky Home and cry. We are planning a steak dinner tonight and I won't have to worry about slapping a fly off my food:D

 

**I sure would have liked to have seen the Queen since I think that would have been so cool.

I'll be at the Warsaw Derby party for the annual high-dollar horse auction.

I'll be down by the track but not there today...with the two youngin's it's not fair for momma to have to deal with all of that. I absolutely love horse racing. I do love its pomp and circumstance. I do love the attention it brings to the Commonwealth. It is a KY sport...and it gets worldwide attention....I go to the track a heckuva lot, and it is in my blood...I hit the exacta on race 1 already today.

The beauty of the Derby, and horse racing in general, is that it brings together both the hoity-toity types and the common folks.

 

By "bring together" you mean sit in their boxes while the masses engage in shameless hedonism in the infield, right?

I've watched a couple of Derbys on TV in my time, but none in the last 10 years. I'll be playing baseball with my kids or fishing or something else that day and I'll catch the highlights on the evening news.

 

For such a big event for our state, I've just never been attracted to it. Even if I liked horse racing, I think I would prefer something with a little less glamor and pretense. I know I'd love being around the horses, but I also know I would hate being around the crowds and the pomp and circumstance that comes with the Derby.

 

I know it is great for Kentucky, so I really hope it is successful, but it just isn't for me.

 

I'm with ya man. Having grown up with it, my interest waned years ago. It is a great day to go out to a movie or go out to eat on account of the minimal crowds.

 

This time however I will be at a Derby party thrown by my roommates.

I'm trying to decide whether I roll as a "hoity-toity" or whether I'm in the commoner camp.

There is no finer place to be on Derby Day or day after than in Bardstown. We start consuming corn beverages today and roll right on into tomorrow night. It is a continuous weekend party.
