I still think it boils down to getting the players here. You can be Tony Stewart but if you're driving a Yugo, you won't win much. Just look at how good Rick Barnes' players have made him look as a coach. I think Tubby proved Xs and Os isn't as important at UK as the jimmies and joes.

Tubby had been at Kentucky for 10 years and the last few years hadn't been much fun for him, mainly due to his own ineptness at recruiting, and dealing with a lame bunch of assisistant coaches which he chose not to address. And he saw that it wasn't going to get any better next year. So he took the best option for him and Donna and decided to start a new life in Minnesota. He wasn't "ran off"....he left on his own decision. He wasn't fired, but he was smart enough to see the hand writing on the wall. Programs like UK, UCLA, UNC, Notre Dame football, and Florida football have high expectations....and should. Sometimes a change is inevitable.

No, that he didn't. He did compare UK fans to Notre Dame fans, who according to him also live in the past. I guess having great tradition and high expectations qualify you as living in the past. My advice to him is to stay off the UK bandwagon when the Cats make it back to the final four, which I predict will happen sooner than Lupica would believe.

I dont think UK fans are that way, we want a chance to win every year and we are no where near that now. Pat Summitt had not won a national championship since 98 but she had been to 4 final fours. Opinions are like ------- everyone has one even those guys. Who cares what they think about Kentucky Fans. The only thing they are letting everyone know is that Kentucky Fans want a winning program and whats wrong with that. Every school should have expectations and if their coach does not meet those expectations then they get another one. Everyone does not have to agree with those expectations. Kentucky's education and the National education system is setup that way. Districts and teachers are held accountable so why shouldn't coach's be held accountable too. Just depends on their standards. It doesn't matter if someone agree's or disagree's with those standards.

Did anyone think that UK wasn't going to be the media's punching bag for a while after recent developments? They ran off (in the minds of the media) a very popular, very successful (by most school's standards) African American coach to go after the young hot coach only to be scorned. They then hire a guy that has great upside but is a little on the green side (5 years as a head coach) for UK standards. This is a formula for the talking heads to take their shots. Of course winning cures all. JMO, of course.

 

1) If Tubby was run off, he wasn't "very popular."

 

2) Most people outside UK like to simultaneously call Tubby successful and say that the program isn't what it used to be. The program was undeniably at the pinnacle of the sport when Tubby took the reigns, so either a) the program is still great or b) Tubby was not successful.

 

3) Tubby had 6 years of head coaching experience when he was hired. Gillispie has 5. He also has 2 of the last 3 Big12 Coach of the Year awards.

 

4) Over the last two years Billy G is 49-16 (.754), while Tubby went 44-25 (.638).
