I was just okay with it at first, but the more I watched the Press Conference the more I fell in love with Billy G. He is destined to be a great Wildcat basketball coach. The guy isn't even married because his life revolves so much around basketball. On top of that he's a straight shooting country boy and can relate to a Kentucky fan base 100X more than Tubby ever could have. He is passionate about what he does and has already challenged an already passionate fanbase to crank it up a notch. He and UK are a perfect fit IMO.

I absolutely love the hire. I'll admit that I was hoping that they would possibly give John Pelphrey a shot, but after reading a lot about this guy the past 24 hours, and listening to the press confernece, I really don't think MB could have made a better choice. Billy G. is so full of energy and excitement, and I know that he'll have the Cats ready to fight for 40 minutes each game next year. He may run off a couple of guys because they're not willing to make the sacrifice, and work as hard as he's going to work them, but we don't need those types of players wearing a Kentucky uniform anyway. Let this guy have a chance. He will get the first two to do whatever with because any poor season and Tubby will get the blame.

I loved his comment on how the varsity coach at his HS was excited about the 4th grade class and what they will be able to accomplish when they get to the HS. Classic.

I would bet that fans will be more excited than we have been at the end of the last 2 seasons.

Not necessarily. The cupboard went bare when Tubby left. At least at this point. Billy Clyde manages to somehow land PP and Jai and that will give him some quality marks with UK fans.

Mitch has got to be congratualed on the job he did hiring exactly the right guy for the job! I love this guy and I am very excited about the future of UK basketball.He was meant to be here.

I like the guy. He has a personality that fans will really relate with. If he continues to be relentless in recruiting I think everyone will be very happy with the hire sooner than later.

 

He's got his work cut out for him...

Honest question here. What is to be overjoyed about? What in his career makes him a better choice than Tubby? He has had one good season and that good season resulted in a Sweet 16 appearance.

 

I look forward to studying as a coach a new style. Seeing new plays and the like.

 

Just don't see what in his record has some people so excited. I would love for someone to point it out to me because as I have said, not much on this guy to know.

 

They talked about him being a Bill Self protege. This is the same Bill Self that a stat was ran about him in the NCAA tourney that he has the most Elite 8 appearances WITHOUT a victory.

 

1. 3 straight top 20 recruiting classes classes

2. improved UTEP in 2 years

3. improved Texas A&M to a good program

4. He has improved his record every season

 

Yes Tubby was a decent coach but he single handedly put himself & the UK program into these past 2 HORRIBLE seasons since he recruited every single player on the floor!!!!! He got paid a boatload of $$$$ for 2 straight mediocre seasons. Not mediocre in UK eyes but mediocre to EVERY DECENT PROGRAM (8 seed & 10+ losses per season).
