Was that Elite group the Sweet 16? Because that will not be accepted at UK.

Not much is acceptable, to same whom claim to be UK fans.

 

This is his first day on the job and I can't believe, some are already unhappy or concerned....give the man time and realize, if any of us knew more than Coach G., we should have applied to Barnhart.

I didn't want to start ANOTHER thread on him, but this press conference was really great.

 

Everyone can chip in their thoughts. Two comments that stood out to me.

 

When asked about being second guessed and how that would affect him. He mentioned being married once and learned at a young age to have a thick skin.

 

When asked about being the 2nd choice and how he felt about that. He said he was just happy to be in the top 8 of choices. lol

 

A great personality, will be great to see how it translates.

I will have to wait and see. Seems like he became a hot commodity after a SINGLE season. He has not had much success in the NCAA tournament and doesn't have much to hang his hat on.

 

What he does will determine whether I am happy or not. I don't know much about the guy except that their isn't a lot to know about the guy.

 

I think the question is are you happy now. Obviously, that can change depending on his performance.

 

I'm happy. I'm very pleased with the hire. I think it's the best choice after Donovan, and think it's very possible that we could end up being better off with him instead of Donovan. Of course, there's no way to prove that one way or the other. I'm really excited to see what the upcoming season holds, and the seasons after that.

My point is that if he has the same success over the next ten years that Tubby had will he be considered a success? 26 wins a year. 3 elite 8's with HIS players. Becoming the 2nd coach to go 19-0 in the SEC (Tubby being the first). Winning 30 games twice.

 

My personal opinion if his 10 years of coaching meets the same levels as Tubby he has done a great job. But for the Big Blue Nation, that was not enough.

I was very impressed by the press conference, I wasn't very familiar with Billy at first but after watching the press conference I think we got a steal with him. I liked the fact that he plans on getting to know the high school coaches around the state and just as homeless said above I love his personality. I can't wait to listen to him again at 6!!!

I think that this is going to end up being a GREAT hire. He has alot more personality than I first thought. I like the fact that he said he plans on meeting every single high school coach in the state to build relationships and make sure that no great in state talent gets away. I can't wait to see how this summer turns out with recruiting. It also seems like he isn't just going to throw in the towel on next season. If he can get 3 solid recruits to fill out the roster, the Cats may be able to have a successful season!!!

It will be impossible, to please some who claim "fan" allegiance and only time will tell, on his legacy at UK.

Honest question here. What is to be overjoyed about? What in his career makes him a better choice than Tubby? He has had one good season and that good season resulted in a Sweet 16 appearance.

 

I look forward to studying as a coach a new style. Seeing new plays and the like.

 

Just don't see what in his record has some people so excited. I would love for someone to point it out to me because as I have said, not much on this guy to know.

 

They talked about him being a Bill Self protege. This is the same Bill Self that a stat was ran about him in the NCAA tourney that he has the most Elite 8 appearances WITHOUT a victory.

Only time will tell, as of right now now, I think the University did well.

Any idea on who he will be going after for next season? I know that Patterson and Lucas are still out there, but is there any good in state talent that could be D1 that is unsigned?

He sound like he actually likes and enjoys recruiting. That's a huge plus.

Well heres my opinion ---UK needed to home run , We swung and missed with Billy D and got Billy G. More like a bunt single. It's not like recruits are going to have a fever when some guy who alot of people (including myself) don't know squat about, comes calling. We are the # 1 program in the land , we are so high profile most other schools don't even come close. (like 15,000 logged on the UK message board ). And we hire a guy from Texas A and M ? Maybe it will work out ...I hope .... but my heart was pulling for Pelphrey. Lack of experience my butt, he's been around coaching for over 10 years. Opinions ? Larry Bird
