Any idea on who he will be going after for next season? I know that Patterson and Lucas are still out there, but is there any good in state talent that could be D1 that is unsigned?

 

The only possible steal might be Matt Walls from Scott County. He has yet to sign and is considered by many a low-level Division I player, but he might be a good signing for UK if its too late to grab any quality unsigned players.

Dont think they need another Porter on their team...Walls should go to mid major school and have a good 4 years of ball and get a good education unless he wants to walk on at UK

Well heres my opinion ---UK needed to home run , We swung and missed with Billy D and got Billy G. More like a bunt single. It's not like recruits are going to have a fever when some guy who alot of people (including myself) don't know squat about, comes calling. We are the # 1 program in the land , we are so high profile most other schools don't even come close. (like 15,000 logged on the UK message board ). And we hire a guy from Texas A and M ? Maybe it will work out ...I hope .... but my heart was pulling for Pelphrey. Lack of experience my butt, he's been around coaching for over 10 years. Opinions ? Larry Bird

 

I'm sure that this will get moved to the college forum. Before it does, you need to do your research. Billy G. has brought 4 straight top 25 recruiting classes to College Station. He has a lot of pull in the state of Texas. This was my #1 all along. I wasn't sold on Billy D. coming, and I witnessed him outcoach Barnes.

My point is that if he has the same success over the next ten years that Tubby had will he be considered a success? 26 wins a year. 3 elite 8's with HIS players. Becoming the 2nd coach to go 19-0 in the SEC (Tubby being the first). Winning 30 games twice.

 

My personal opinion if his 10 years of coaching meets the same levels as Tubby he has done a great job. But for the Big Blue Nation, that was not enough.

I love how humble and down to earth this guy is. Unlike Tubby he is great with the press and understands that recruiting is the most important part of the job. UK is going to love this guy, a perfect fit IMO. How good was this quote" we want to make them want to leave by halftime" when asked about the home court advantage.

I agree. He might could play at UK, but I'm not real sure. I was just suggesting that if they can't fill out the roster, then maybe they sign Walls.

There is no bunt, Donovan is like many other college coaches, very good. I can think of at least 65 programs in the NCAA and numerous, in the NIT which have solid coaches.

Tubby is gone. Get over it.

I am over it but want the Big Blue Nation to give this guy a chance. Let him have success and be happy with the success. Tubby has two good but not great seasons and they were all over him. Let this guy have a chance. He will get the first two to do whatever with because any poor season and Tubby will get the blame.

Really enjoyed the press conference & am final EXCITED about UK basketball again!!!!

 

BG on:

1. style - he likes a uptempo game but will play whatever will give his team the best opportunity to win.

2. recruits - tallest, fastest, quickest, that can shoot is what he's looking for. if he cant find that he said he cut the high down a couple inches.

3. uk's demanding fans - he said he loved pressure & 24,000 fans every night didnt seem like pressure to him.

4. thick skin & second guessing - he said he was married & isnt now so he knew all about those.

5. Agent - he said he was a country boy & wanted to answer for himself.

You say you don't want a no name, then say you want Pelphrey? UK fans know who he is, but outside of that he's more of an unknown than Gillispie....

I hope everyone is still this happy at this time next year.

 

I would bet that fans will be more excited than we have been at the end of the last 2 seasons.
