I thought Tubby was a good coach and I supported him, but he did not display the kind of excitement that Gillespie showed on his press conference. That will be very evident when he hits the recruiting trail. I personally feel like we got a great hire.

Thing I've learned from the past year or so from the Tubby Smith/UK saga...

 

1. From the criteria posted by various people/groups, I have concluded that there are very, very few, if any, true UK fans.

 

2. Also, from the numerous "You just lost all credibility..." posts, there are very, very few people who post on BGP that have any credibility. I know I lost my credibility because I questioned Tubby Smith. I have seen others lose their credibility for that and various other reasons. Also, many lost their credibility when their "sources" turned out to be wrong this past week.

 

I suppose if I wanted to comb through all the posts on here, I could make a short, short list of true UK fans and credible posters...

Great pick BUT isn't it easier to take a bad program in a good conference, get one great player AC LAW and make a nice run rather than to take a program like UK and have it in the top 5 each and every year?

 

Does taking a bad program, playing an easy schedule and having a good season translate to taking a top program and getting it back and keeping it at a top 5 level?

 

I hope it does. I just don't know anything about this guy and besides parts of the UL game haven't ever seen a game of AM's.

 

He did beat Louisville the NCAA, unless UL is a wash team so to speak.

I think Tubby was just stale and boring...his style of play, his personality, etc...and I think that is one thing, possibly the biggest thing, that hurt him in his recruiting efforts. It was just time for a change for both sides and I think both will be better off and happier in the future because of it. I wish Tubby the best, but I'm glad he's in Minnesota and we have a new coach.

I like both, grew up in Ohio, but have been in KY since 82 so it grew on me. I started liking UK basketball when I played against Kyle Macy's dad back in 78 when I was a little Tyke.

As I said in my post, I didn't include the NCAA but was looking at the regular schedule. But since you brought it up, A & M never made it out of the Sweet 16 with Gillespie as coach.

 

I would feel better if he has one run to at least the Elite 8 on his resume.
