April 6, 200719 yr yeah.. but Gillispie has been holding off signing a fat new contract at A&M to see how the UK situation plays out. He's not backing out now. And how often do you hear about these kind of situations...
April 6, 200719 yr News conference at 12:45, pep rally at 12:15 at memorial col. What does everyone think of this? And do you think Patterson and Lucas will still come? And do you think he will bring Jordan with him?
April 6, 200719 yr Are you serious? Yes I am serious. No.. he doesn't have the resume Izzo or Donovan have That is exactly what I meant. I didn't say he wasn't a good hire either. I'll support him to the end. After all, he WANTS to coach the Cats, and you gotta love him for that.
April 6, 200719 yr he's job rides on this one. Thats not fair to say. Like I said in another thread. Mitch had to make a hire to mop up the mess left behind, someone who was a proven recruiter, not proven coach. I think you get some good athletes in here and then look for a better coach the next go round. UK fans just need to learn to watch and enjoy leave the coaching up to the guys that get paid for that.
April 6, 200719 yr I vote for "B-Gill" Why not just call him "Coach Gillispie" until he "earns" a nickname. As people learn about him and if he succeeds, one will come to the forefront and catch on naturally, Of course, if he fails to produce, others will be quickly attached. I just read in another thread about his conveniently dropped DUI charges. Maybe that event will produce a good nickname.
April 6, 200719 yr Do you really feel that is a fair statement? I feel like mitch did a pretty good mop up job after a coach kind of left a program in shambles. I feel like you go and get a good recruiting coach, which BG is proven to be, keep him around for a few years and then feel the market again in a few years to find that right fit. No doubt BG was not everyone's first option but there just wasnt a lot out there this go round. No its not a fair statement at all, its the brutal truth. Mitch has done a wonderful job in my opinion, but the truth is, and AD can't survive in Lexington if the basketball program isn't strong. Thats why I said it, and I believe it. However, I believe Mitch won't have this worry, as I believe he made the right choice.
April 6, 200719 yr I'm very excited! I hope he does well, but like people have already said, I think he's a great fit. He would have been my second choice, as well.
April 6, 200719 yr Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the Police Chief in the "Heat of the Night" name Bill Gillispie? Maybe we can call him "Chief Gillispie."
April 6, 200719 yr I hope this isn't a lateral move for UK. Some fresh air was needed in Lexington though.....
April 6, 200719 yr I think im going to buy the site name http://www.firebillyG.com.... just kidding, im really excited about this hire
April 6, 200719 yr I'm not sold on him yet but I'm 100% behind him since he's OUR new head coach. GO BIG BLUE!:fight: Whoever is hired will have to prove himself here in the bluegrass, however I believe he has proven his ability just by looking at what he has done at where he has been. Good Luck and Go Big Blue. :thumb:
April 6, 200719 yr Billy G :thumb:  ........and not Billy D :fire: Let Billy D stay at Fla., I think other than Mike D'antoni (who was my top chioce, but has a time conflict with the NBA playoffs) it will be a very, very good hire for Mitch and UK.
April 6, 200719 yr Congrats to Billy G., UK Athletic administration, University and Big Blue Nation... I wish Billy G. all the success at UK. Im giving him a thumbs up and chance to show what he can do as a coach and a recruiter and lead the program to where we all know it belongs.... Top 5!! Good Luck and GO WILDCATS.....
April 6, 200719 yr A very good hire!! Great recruiter & coach. He did sign the freshman player of the year Kevin Durant.
