April 6, 200719 yr Must he be dubbed "Billy G"? Can't we come up with something better? Do you really want all the UK haters, and there are many thousands, to say UK couldn't get "Billy D" so they settled a few notches lower for "Billy G"? It is no big deal in a world where people ar starving but I would hope UK could be a little more original. "Dickie V", "Coach K", "Billy D", etc. Surely, the great tradition at UK deserves better. Thanks Scooter B.........we will come up with something.

April 6, 200719 yr My man just went from slightly on the map to the most scrutinized seat in all of basketball...Good Luck Coach...
April 6, 200719 yr Do you really feel that is a fair statement? I feel like mitch did a pretty good mop up job after a coach kind of left a program in shambles. I feel like you go and get a good recruiting coach, which BG is proven to be, keep him around for a few years and then feel the market again in a few years to find that right fit. No doubt BG was not everyone's first option but there just wasnt a lot out there this go round. REMEMBER -- Pitino was hired as the THIRD option. Gillispie will succeed at UK
April 6, 200719 yr ^^I'm not convinced he wasn't the #2 choice.....I know the talking heads have said it was Donovan, Barnes, and THEN Gillispie, but I doubt it would have been done so quickly if he wasn't #2. Thats what I'm thinking as well. ESPN's article poses doubts on whether Barnes was the #2 as well. Personally, Barnes would've have even been on my list. BTW, Gillispie and Barnes split the series this year. Feb 5th: A&M 100 - Texas 82 Feb 28th: Texas 98 - A&M 96
April 6, 200719 yr Anyways its a done deal. We have a new coach and its very exciting! I hope all the UK fans will really get behind him and give him some time to return UK to excellence.
April 6, 200719 yr I cant wait for the first redneck to call in to "The Billy Gillispie Show" and refer to him as Coach Gillis PIE.
April 6, 200719 yr I would say official, people made it official yesterday when Billy D said there was a presser yesterday for his stay...so it is officially official... ...remember Arkansas.
April 6, 200719 yr ...remember Arkansas. yeah.. but Gillispie has been holding off signing a fat new contract at A&M to see how the UK situation plays out. He's not backing out now.

Feb 5th: A&M 100 - Texas 82 Feb 28th: Texas 98 - A&M 96 Personally I dont think Barnes was next in line either......I think he released a statement saying he was staying at TX just so it could be spun to sound like he turned down the job. Now he can get some play out of that with kids TX and TXAM are both recruiting.
April 6, 200719 yr I think Mitch hit a grand slam home run! He better hope he did, he's job rides on this one.
April 6, 200719 yr I'm not sold on him yet but I'm 100% behind him since he's OUR new head coach. GO BIG BLUE!:fight:

No doubt BG was not everyone's first option but there just wasnt a lot out there this go round. Fair? No. Accurate? Yes. I'ts a high profile job and I wouldn't want the task of hiring the person for that job (especially after the unanimous #1 declines). Barnhart knows that alot rides on his pick and if he feels confident enough in his pick, then I'm right with him. He has proven that he can turn teams around in a hurry (see UTEP and A&M) but let's be real, this isn't the Big 12 and UK isn't either one of those teams. Welcome to town Mr. Gillispie. Don't hesitate to bring Mr. Jordan with you.
April 6, 200719 yr What does Billy G have in common with Eddie Sutton?:sssh: ANSWER: They both wouldnt be caught dead coaching bball at LSwho.
