July 5, 200719 yr Livingston and Dumatrait....In '08 Training Camp or when Roster expands, this August. Conine....No Hatteberg....Yes, if they don't keep Dunn and move him to 1st Arroyo....If he decides to not predominately throw off-speed and then an occasional FB, he can be effective. Lohse....I like his velocity, offspeed and demeanor. He just has to stay away from the middle of the plate and up. Seems like time after time, his command is up and he has limited movement, on his FB and gets in trouble. Votto....I've not seen/read, enough to comment. If some are gone before Trade Deadline, than it will have began the process. I also believe, whomever the new Manager will be, shall have considerable input regarding the Roster, or at least he should. My prediction is that Arroyo gets traded. Secondly, why wait until training camp to look at what could be 2 potential starting pitchers? Lets see them against real MLB talent in real games. Lohse: Not convinced he's a solution. Consistency is required. We can't have games where he goes 8 or 9 followed by 2 where he goes 3 or 4. Votto: Its time to fish or cut bait. He's not a youngster.

Plus they may very well be nearing innings limit, similar to what Bailey did, not sure. Lohse, is a typical thrower, with positive upside but can't learn command of the zone. At some point, teams must either tolerate and accept, or change some mechanical/grip/arm angles, to help get better.
July 5, 200719 yr My prediction is that Arroyo gets traded. I know I read somewhere that Hal McCoy had written a story on this, but why does everyone think Arroyo will be traded? What is the reasning behind this trade?
July 5, 200719 yr I know I read somewhere that Hal McCoy had written a story on this, but why does everyone think Arroyo will be traded? What is the reasning behind this trade? Hal was on with Marty one evening a while back and said that teams were interested in Arroyo and that the Reds may be having 2nd thoughts on the contract extension they signed him to. The challenge is determining how you would replace him in the rotation which already has question marks including Homer for next year.
July 5, 200719 yr As for the young pitchers on the Reds staff, they are young "throwers" and not "pitchers". What I am saying is that they throw the ball down the middle of the plate = get knocked around by anyone and everyone. I don't know who is in the minor league instruction sytem or how they are doing things but it seems to me that area needs to be looked at. We may have some good young "arms" but they are not being developed and need to be taught how to "Pitch" and not just "Throw". (mix pitches up, work the zone, change speeds, etc - Reds have a pitching roster full of young BP pitchers ) JMO

July 5, 200719 yr I like the lineup. Freel is where he needs to be in this lineup. Hopefully Hamilton can draw some walks or hit for average in the leadoff spot.
July 5, 200719 yr Hobbs isn't a true leadoff hitter either, although he is better than Freel in that department.
July 5, 200719 yr Hobbs isn't a true leadoff hitter either, although he is better than Freel in that department. We don't have one. I think Hobbs is about as close as we're are going to get as far as a combination of speed and hitting. His average isn't great but he usually works the count and draws walks which has to frustrate a pitcher a little more at the top of the order than at the bottom. Actually, Hatte is pretty good up there. Hamilton has a better chance of stealing though. It will be interesting to see how aggressive Mack is with the base running.

Yep, one of the many needs this team has. But you are right, Hobbs does have more at bats in which he really works the count and give the other guys in the lineup a chance to see a few pitches. Not to mention get on base and set the table.

I like the way he plays
July 5, 200719 yr Considering the way this team has played in rubber games, NOTHING wrong with a rain out. Thirty percent chance of rain the rest of the night in Cincinnati. You would think they would do everything they could to get it in since Frisco won't be back to the area the rest of the year. At the same time, do we REALLY have to play it? Let's the call the series a draw and leave it.
July 5, 200719 yr Rain has stopped and the clouds are clearing up a bit. 7:35 start... It's supposed to be somewhat clear until around 9 or 10 and then it should pick back up again. Maybe that's what the Reds need, get an early lead and hope for a 5 inning stoppage.
