Great moment as I was telling my son about Homer and I wanted to sit down and watch the game with him tonight. We did and talked about that if he lives up to the hype, we are watching the debut of a HOFer.

 

He made the comment that he would be able to tell his grandchildren that him and his dad sat down and watched the debut of the great Homer Bailey.

 

We even made plans of myself and him and possibly his son going to Homer's HOF induction, if it happens.

 

I don't care if Homer never wins another game as he provided me a great moment with my son on June 8th, 2007.

Been there, done that.

 

We were talking about on the way home that it could've, and maybe should've, been a 2 or 3 run game. The Reds miss a cut off man, don't get a double play they should and had control problems. The Indians had a diving play by their 3rd baseman, SS and second baseman AND gave up 3 home runs. That can win and loss a lot of games throughout a season...

 

On a side note, Baseball Tonight just showed Steve Trachsel's splittie...HOLY CRAP!!!

 

Hopper overthrowing Gonzalez definitely cost them a run. Haffner was struggling to make it home. However, Conine made a great play by cutting the one throw and getting the guy out at third. Speaking of cutoffs, Gonzalez had a shot at the guy at 1st on the flyout, and I assume no-one let him know about that. However, what was Narron upset about on that play? My only thought is possibly the way the guy returned to the base, but I'm not sure.

I was really impressed with the kid's presence on the mound. He's seems mature well beyond his age. You can tell he's a winner. He will have much, much better pitching performances, but he gave a very nice account of himself for his highly emotional debut.

On that last pitch in the top of the 5th when bailey struck the guy out looking to end the inning, I just have one question. What was that guy for Cleveland waiting for? You couldnt ask for a better pitch as a hitter and he just watched it go right down the pipe. I couldnt believe he didnt even attempt to hit it. Great for us, awful piece of hitting for them.

Bailey savored the roar as he walked off the mound after getting Dellucci.

 

“It was awesome,” Bailey said, “especially after that last strikeout, you kind of shut it off and you feel the crowd. It was really amazing.

We were wondering what the heck Nixon was doing by tagging on that with 0 outs. Instead of a man on second with one out, they had nobody on with 2 outs. Bonehead baserunning mistake but a really good defensive play. The guy at home would've been safe anyway.

 

As for the double play. I'm not sure what Narron was complaining about. He came back the proper way. I don't know what the 1st base umpire would be calling on that. My only thought was that the second base umpire was in the 'line of fire' when Gonzalez turned to throw. He didn't try to kneel or move at all, he just stood there. The only thing is that he never once gestured toward the second base ump. Not sure if 1st base was the crew chief or what. BP should've been yelling ONE!

SportsCenter was a bit unkind to Homer tonight. SportsNation voted Homer

Bailey the worst name of any pitcher in MLB history. Pretty big ouch for a

guy who won tonight (which is more than can be said about alot of the Reds

pitching on most nights).

I saw that but did not take it in the way that you did. They were joking about players names in relation to their position, the name of "Homer" as a pitcher is what they were talking about. Not that he wasn't a good pitcher. They also mentioned other names in relation to their position/sport they played.

Great outing for the Kid and I am so glad he got us the win BUT it seemed to me he never had his velocity which is kind of a concern. The stadium gun showed 95 at the most that I saw. I hope some of it just might be nerves but I guess we will see next time. I really wish I was at the game now. I was really close to going to but we all backed out. :madman:

The gun may have been reading only 95, but trust me his velocity was there. He has that long stride to home plate when he pitches, and the ball just jumps out of his hand. The Cleveland batters were late on his fastball, even when they knew it was coming. Once he gets total command of his curveball, and changeup he's going to be something special.

Tonight is the first win of a 7 game win streak.

I agree it looked good and seemed like it was getting by a lot of them but that had me scratching my head a little bit. His curve is pretty decent he really needs to slow that change up down. I came away very happy with the end result his start.

And the Reds struggle against bad left handers. I just can't see them beating the Tribe on Sunday, although having Harang go does give us a bit of a chance.
