If he takes a 3-2 K looking people are all over it as well. It was his first swing in the 6 pitch at bat. This is what you're taking a stand on tonight? Wow...

Taking a meat ball at 3-2 is no different. It's a shame this is what the Reds talk has become..

You may think it is stupid, but if it were me, in that situation you have to make Wellmeyer throw you a strike, and the chances were in your favor he wasn't at the rate he was going..and I still would have put the take on.

Id take my chances on taking ball four in that situation than have Harang already made up his mind he was going to swing.

 

When it rains it pours...we can talk about luck and lack there of it, and finding ways to lose close games...but this team is 15 games below .500 in the first week of June and it is flat out pathetic.

 

They don't have enough pitching, their bullpen is ugly, they bring up guys to pitch in the pen and they sit.

They hit long balls, but they don't get on base enough. When on base they get thrown out stealing or getting picked off or they are left stranded.

This is a poorly constructed team.

But we can hope they get hot and somehow get within shouting distance of .500 at the All-Star Break, because this is a BAD division.

 

I just hope to goodness they hold Bailey to a strict pitch count and take him out when he gets it, no matter how good he is doing. If not, then it certainly qualifies as a firable offense.

Norris Hopper is proving how valuable Dunn is.

 

Hopper has pretty much replaced Freel with his hustle, hitting and defense. But you move Dunn out of this lineup and who is going to end the season producing 160 runs? (100 RBI's + 100 Runs scored - 40 HR's) No one.

 

Freel was a huge part of this offense but Hopper has shown how easy that can be replaced. No one in the organization ready to step in today and replace the stats Dunn will accumulate by season end.

I wouldn't think so. I mean he just shatters bats 2 or 3 times a game. Not jam-jobs either, often down off the end of the bat (which I realize is shatter-prone when a guy is as strong as a bull). It just seems he shatters more bats than anyone I can recall seeing.

I'll say you are wrong on most every point. They are losing the fan base, but in Cincinnati that's not much of a problem to fix.

 

The Reds are faced with the same team as about 75% of MLB. Losing in a new way every night is the problem. Fixing it shouldn't be that hard. But the fans will make sure it is...

Wrong on most every point....:lol: Oh My....Teams lose for a reason, not just because it's a new night. Unless we're watching different games, my description of the Reds problems, are accurate.

 

I stated a week or so ago, there may need to be a change, as they have no fire/passion. The very next games, they were enthused and played well defensively, motivated....so that tells me, it's the players.

 

Some can dislike Narron, players, Krivsky or the entire organization but it's nearly impossible to motivate players, who can't/don't want to be motivated. Small market team, with limited ability in all phases of the game.

How can you not catch that?

The game did not have my full attention, so I am probably missing something here. Here is my question. Valentin is behind the plate correct? Moeller had pinch hit an inning before? Did Moeller pinch hit for a pitcher or a position player? If it was a pitcher does it not make sense to make a double switch and have your better defensive catcher behind the plate? With 3 catchers on the roster they should NEVER have Javy behind the plate in a tied game. Not saying it cost the Reds the game, LOB had something to do with that.

I'm with the "take sign" on that one. If you take all the rest and you have no clue where the ball is going (nor does the pitcher in this case), why risk it? He was never going to hit anything Wild Thing was throwing up there and nothing was over the plate on any of the previous 5 pitches.
