The game did not have my full attention, so I am probably missing something here. Here is my question. Valentin is behind the plate correct? Moeller had pinch hit an inning before? Did Moeller pinch hit for a pitcher or a position player? If it was a pitcher does it not make sense to make a double switch and have your better defensive catcher behind the plate? With 3 catchers on the roster they should NEVER have Javy behind the plate in a tied game. Not saying it cost the Reds the game, LOB had something to do with that.

 

In the 7th inning, Ken Griffey Jr hit for David Ross, Valentin hit for Castro. In the 9th inning Moeller hit for Majewski.

 

As for putting Moeller in the game instead of Valentin, I have no idea. My brain hurt just going through gametracker to see who pinch hit for who. lol

Thanks. I think it would have made sense to have Moeller behind the plate in that situation. Do the Reds win the game in that scenario, probably not. Does Moeller let that pitch get by him? Who knows. I would think in a tied game, going into the 9th inning the manager is responsible for giving the team the best chance by having the more capable people on the field. Maybe that's some sort of radical thinking on my behalf, and I'm sure someone will point the misconception I have about it. Its just an opinion.

There are things beyond Jerry Narron's control and then there are some things that are in his control and I think it stinks.

 

He manages too much by the textbook. I don't know if Narron is the answer to the game decisions for the Reds.

 

I agree with Ladiesbballcoach about Hopper...I really like Adam Dunn, but my GAWSH....he is looking out of shape and a liability.

 

The Reds need to make a lot of changes...many cry about pitching...but in my opinion, the Reds must get more diversity in the hitting order and have the ability to hit at all spots...they are fundamentally terrible. MLB players shouldn't be fundamentally terrible, but they are....can't bunt, hit other way, make routine plays, etc...the defense was supposed to be shored up, however, where do we rank defensively?????

Wrong on most every point....:lol: Oh My....Teams lose for a reason, not just because it's a new night. Unless we're watching different games, my description of the Reds problems, are accurate.

 

I stated a week or so ago, there may need to be a change, as they have no fire/passion. The very next games, they were enthused and played well defensively, motivated....so that tells me, it's the players.

 

Some can dislike Narron, players, Krivsky or the entire organization but it's nearly impossible to motivate players, who can't/don't want to be motivated. Small market team, with limited ability in all phases of the game.

 

Absolutely. If you can't come up with a specific problem(s) that needs to be addressed, then you aren't going to fix it. Pretending that it is going to fix itself because the "only" problem the Reds have is that they "find a way to lose" isn't the answer. The Reds are MLB poster children for proving that you can't win without quality pitching. Period.

 

The only part of your assessment with which I disagree is the "lack of respect and passion" issue. I don't see a lack of respect for the game. I see a serious problem with simple fundamentals that might be misconstrued as a lack of respect. As far as passion or lack thereof, that is tied in closely with winning and losing. You're a coach, so you know this: Losing teams always seem to lack passion and enthusiasm - probably has something to do with the fact that losing isn't real fun. Conversely, the whole world seems a bright happy place when you're winning - even winning ugly.

 

"Losing in a new way every night is the problem. Fixing it shouldn't be that hard. But the fans will make sure it is . . ." So it's not the player's fault, not Narron's fault, not Krivsky's fault - it's the fan's fault? All we have to do is get rid of the people in Cincinnati and we will fix this mess? Wow.

I'll go on record as saying I hope there aren't many changes on the horizon, it has become a sort of ritual now where my sons and I wonder how they are gonna screw up next, and FWIW, that has been enjoyable viewing. When my 13y.o. reaches over after the "passed ball" and high 5's me, he says "Woop, there it is!!"

I believe I said this about 2,000 posts ago in here. I started watching this team for comedy instead of drama a month ago. Much more fun...

Every time this franchise hits a bad stretch of baseball everyone gets up in arms to start all over. Do you really think that's good for the future? All new players, coaches and management once again. And people wonder why it never becomes stable. Congrats on coaching at a low level. It means nothing in terms of building a stable major league franchise...

If you're right, and the "fans", whether they're dumbed down or mensa members makes not one iota difference. They're fans, no more no less. Do you think they just ignore what they money has to say? It would be nice to think they did, but in reality how can they? 10,000 in the seats night in and night out is going to create major problems, right? $1.00 dogs doesn't work. Can't have a bobble head or fireworks every night. Calling up the "Savior" at a strange time is going to sell the place out. How long will that last? It would be nice to see the constant complaining and clamoring for change die down, but in the end they are the worst team in baseball right now, so it's not going anywhere.

I'll sum it up, in less than 100....

 

Below average MLB pitching, in starters, relievers and closers. Veterans at the end of their careers; Role players, who are no longer capable; Youngsters, who are 2-3 years away; No team speed; No true leadoff hitter; Lack of fundamentals; Passion and respect for the game, seems to be missing; A collection of castoffs and has beens....and worse of all to me, going through the motions of playing the greatest game.

 

The Reds, are a below average, MLB franchise and loosing their fan base, quickly.

 

I think you've summed it up fairly well.

 

Starting pitching: 2 solid starters and then "we hope."

Bullpen: Please - past their prime and not MLB quality youngsters(yet).

Leadoff hitter: None

Clutch hitting: None

Team speed: None

Castoffs and hasbeens: see first part of bullpen post

Passion: None - blame both the players and Jerry. Like it or not, its part of his job.

Defense: OK - I can actually live with the defense we have which, of course, could be because most other aspects are poor.

Fundamentals : all talk - no action (see Jerry)

 

Jerry has his faults. The team is NOT bad because of him. However, I don't see him making them better.
