Well, I don't agree that Homer was a ticket seller move, otherwise if the franchise were so "hard up" they'd have brought him up against a thinner crowd, IMO. And for the record, I'm not in disagreement with you, only that I would hope that management would refrain from personnel decisions on what I thought I'd like to see. If that were the case, I'm of the mindset that you have to spend money in this business to make money, regardless of the market. I'm not saying we end up going deep into the luxury tax crowd, but I'd definitely loosen the purse strings. First time anyone's said that I bet!

Wholesale changes may be a better terrm than panic. If your point is they let Bonderman and Maroth struggle in 2004, OK.

June 6, 200719 yr This has probably been discussed already but I don't have the time nor the inclination to read through more than ten pages of posts to get caught up. Why are the Reds bring Homer up now??? This season is shot and all this really does is give a very short term boost to attendance at the expense of what I understand will be throwing away a year of his current contract by making him arbitration eligible early. If that is in fact the case, why not just wait until July to bring him up, Lord knows attendance will still be bad then and any boost from Homer will not last long term.

Nope, I agree and I said basically the same thing in a thread a while back :thumb: . Imo as long as the Reds insist on payimg "bargin basement" prices they are going to have the "Rummage Sale" team on the field. JMO
June 6, 200719 yr Every time this franchise hits a bad stretch of baseball everyone gets up in arms to start all over. Do you really think that's good for the future? All new players, coaches and management once again. And people wonder why it never becomes stable. Congrats on coaching at a low level. It means nothing in terms of building a stable major league franchise... Nor does sticking with a plan that has currently produced a team battling it out on a daily basis for the worst record in all of MLB. I certainly didn't recommend making wholesale changes right now. I only agreed with K3's analysis of what problems need to be addressed and that the problems run a bit deeper than the fact that the Reds learn new ways to lose every night (at least it's entertaining). Some changes should and will occur mid-season as contending teams seek additions from bottom-feeders like the Reds and it provides them an opportune time to dump players. Wholesale changes now? No. But come the off-season, if there aren't quite a few changes how would you reasonably expect next year to be any different than this? And Narron is NOT a major league manager. Most certainly not the sole reason the Reds languish at the bottom, but not the guy to captain the ship next year.

My point on finding a new way every night is that they are good enough to be in every game right down to the last pitch. You've never been in that situation as a coach? If so, was it your fault? I think that a firing of Narron as soon as the season is over is needed - that would give time to find and search through applicants for a manager. June 6, 200719 yr Norris Hopper is proving how valuable Dunn is. Hopper has pretty much replaced Freel with his hustle, hitting and defense. But you move Dunn out of this lineup and who is going to end the season producing 160 runs? (100 RBI's + 100 Runs scored - 40 HR's) No one. Freel was a huge part of this offense but Hopper has shown how easy that can be replaced. No one in the organization ready to step in today and replace the stats Dunn will accumulate by season end. Freel is overrated...bats leadoff but has a terrible OBP, plus he is a threat to get thrown out stealing or picked off.
