For non UK Fans?

Featured Replies

Ok...I still say a majority dislikes UK and the other elite programs because of their success....
I like UCLA. I root for Duke more often than not. I thought UNC was the best team this year (too bad their coach can't do it on the court like he can in a recruit's living room.)

It's the Eighteen Percenters. Pure and simple.

Bad math. Do I use that phrase every March/April? I look forward to the day UK returns to the Final Four so that I can retire it.

2007- No Ring.

2006- No Ring.

2005- No Ring.

2004- No Ring.

2003- No Ring.

2002- No Ring.

2001- No Ring.

2000- No Ring.

1999- No Ring.

1998- Ring

Count those.

Huh? What point are you trying to prove?

Count the years. UK has one title in the past 10. If they didn't win it in '97, how can they have 2 in the past 11?

I was thinking numeric years like 96-07, difference of 11, sorry

Don't worry... you're hardly alone. I make this post all the time.
It sounds to me like you have a hatred for the school as well....

Not hardly. UK is a tremendous school with the greatest resources in the state as well as nation as far as getting a quality education. My son loves UK and basketball and even if he can't play for UK I wouldn't be prouder if he still went to UK and graduated from UK unlike myself who attended UK and never graduated. I have nothing but love for the school and the great times I had there, but I cannot stand the basketball program and the way it chooses to operate. I do root for all other UK sports.

It's as predictable as the sun coming up tomorrow.

I could get into a lengthy laundry list, but I'll try to be brief.

I dislike the way the UK program and its most well-heeled donors act as though all other colleges not named UK are somehow beneath even their contempt.

With the fans, it's variations upon that theme. I'd rather not get into it. The stubborn unwillingness to accept reality among some also wears upon me.

The way I see it, Louisville and Kentucky have attended equal numbers of Final Fours in my lifetime, with the Wildcats winning one more title.

Probably seven national championships, more wins than any other program, no matter who the coach has been they have all enjoyed at least one thirty win season, over 20,000 fans showing up just for a pre season practice....these things and a lot more probably help fuel an inferiority complex in some. But then again if you take it over to college football people think the same of Notre Dame and USC fans as well.

Being hated is the best way of knowing that you are succeding in you field.:jump: :walk:  :dancingpa

BINGO...

People can say whatever but I say this is the reason the majority dislikes the UK basketball program...

Yep...

I secretly root for UK because I don't want to be perceived as one of "those guys."

Great post. I honetsly feel sorry for some of these people. They truly need some professional help. Their whole life is UK basketball. These people that would camp out for 2-3 weeks to get in line for Midnight Madness, name their kids some God awful name because it had something to do with UK basketball. You just have to read the message boards, and listen to the call in shows, and you'll realize that some of these people are just so eat up with it, that they simply cannot enjoy those things in life that truly should make you enjoy life.

So now your'e telling me you didn't name your son after a former UK point guard? :sssh: :D

So basically what everyone is saying is that they hate the top programs if they aren't their team. Go read message boards for any school that has a ton of history and is normally on top of their sport. UK fans are no different then any of these other teams. Louisville fans just feel so strongly about UK fans because they have to live with them. I don't disagree that a percentage of UK fans give us all a bad name but what team's fan base doesn't have that same percentage. Spend a day reading some boards of other top programs in basketball and football. UK is no different.

Sorry to hear that,it would not been a problem for me if you were a UNC and UK fan, hope you come back to us.:thumb:

maybe someday... :bunny:
