Still nothing reported on ESPN

Im still skeptical about this. We go from Tubby leaving, most likely losing Lucas and Patterson as recruits and Morris leaving for the Knicks to Billy D. being our head man, having a great shot at Patterson and Lucas and possibly a couple other recruits Billy had locked up. Seems like something that shouldnt have happened after this year and the year before but something I'm desperately hoping does happen.

I'm with you. I believe it but I won't let it get me too excited until it's a done deal and he says so. I do think him dodging the question without saying no has been a good sign.

I'm ready to be excited, but then again not ready to get my hopes up. Does that make any sense? I will hold off untill I see him at the podium with Mitchy Poo before I get entirely demolished if this proves not to be true.

You all do remember ESPN reporting the deal with Alabama and Rich Rodriguez that ended up with Rodriguez staying at WV the next day.

I remember Lute Olson to Kentucky before they named some guy named Sutton as Joe Hall's replacement.

There's a reason there's no crawler on the bottom of the screen at ESPN...

Here is what I posted on House of Blue.

Steady guys, geez!!! This post on House of Blue -- where we discuss rumors every day -- is exactly what it says it is. Blockbuster deal done? (note question mark). Did not come from UK officials (as stated). REPORTEDLY set to offer. Can still fall through? Yes.

 

I put a one paragraph teaser on main page simply to direct folks to the message board, same as we did with Sunday's Scuttlebutt segment. That's it. If this had been a news story announcing UK will sign its coach I would have included comments from UK officials.

 

This is one of several rumors circulating -- only this one can't be shot down -- and from what I've learned these are the details. But we are still a long way from done as evidenced by the reference to another story coming up about Plan B candidates if this doesn't pan out. (I've been told some media outlets ran with this info as fact, which is unfortunate but I can't control that.)

 

I can appreciate the excitement over the possibilities, but let's take a breath. And thanks to everyone who read it for what it is, adding comments like, "I hope this is true." "I'll keep my fingers crossed."

 

You guys are dancing in the streets after reading the terms UK is going to offer Donovan... Which, by the way, are WAY SHORT of some of the fantastic numbers people 'in the know' have been reporting.

 

So I guess you'll have to cork that champagne, Wireman.

 

BTW, those jumping on 2's case for his question? He's totally right if Wireman's buddywas telling the truth. That money went through, according to Wireman, before Florida gave permission to Kentucky to even talk to him. I asked a similiar question in the original thread.

I don't really like the "personality" of Donovan but will readily say and admit that imo he is probably the best choice for U.K. at this time. We will have to see what happens after next weekend.

 

Just a thought, I wonder if there are already orginazation meetings of bashers and are going to rename the club "Billy Bahshers :eek: :sssh: " :lol: Like I said in another thread, only the name wil change and the "no clue" bashing will go on forever. They may give the new coach (whoever it may be) a 1 year break and still blame everything on Tubby.:lol:

Last Friday I had heard that Donovan was already sealed up, and the contract was for $3+ million.

 

That matches up with the time frame and dollar amount. I'm not completely convinced yet, but with Billy's nonexistent denials, I'm cautiously optimistic.

The first thought I had when I started reading this thread was "That isn't what the headline said".

 

There is a big difference between leaking the supposed terms of the alleged offer, and announcing that a deal has been reached.

 

I know we are anxious, but we made that leap quicker than a tornado through a mobile home park. :lol:

Not that there is nothing to the story. I'm sure we have made extensive negotiations with Billy's agent, and I wouldn't be surprised if we hadn't come to some terms with him. I wouldn't even call it a stretch that the info released turns out to be the actual terms agreed upon.

 

BUT...

 

I agree with those who say it was extremely bad timing to release that information. They don't make moves on this level, however, with out some kind of mutual consent.

 

Maybe it was leaked to get the attention of the McD players. But my internal radar tells me Billy D is playing UK and this certainly will create plenty of scuttlebutt. Which would only be good for Billy's negotiations with UF.

The deal is not done. The offer has been made and Donovan has the contract in hand but he hasn't accepted. I like our chances.

They are talking about Donovan going to the Heat now. Anybody think Donovan is using all of this for leverage? I sure do.

I love guys who talk like they actually know the internal workings of the UK athletic department.
