Even the class A is a joke. You can have 425 (133 per class) in the top 3 grades and be class A. Some of those little schools like Cloverport, Silver Grove, Monticello, Burgin, Deming, Augusta, etc. graduate about 25 or 30 per year.

The Class A is absolutely not a joke and I am sure you would not speak such foolishness if you had a son or daughter participating in the All A Classic.

Elliott County class A played in the all A Classic at Richmond(and also for the last 3 or 4 years) and are going to Rupp and representing the 16th region in the State Tournament . I'll bet if you asked every single player on the Elliott County team which state tournament they would rather play in that to a man the answer would be "We want Rupp"!

They may rather play in the Sweet 16 at Rupp, but I would bet you that every one of those players would rather win an All A State Championship than just play in the tournament at Rupp. I know myself personally I would rather have an All A State Championship than just get to play in the Sweet 16 at Rupp.

The real choice they have is 1. Play at Rupp

Ask a player from a small (Class A, AA, or even AAA) that has not had a player from their team see the inside of Rupp without buying a ticket for the last 10,20,30 years what they would rather have.

If fairness is an issue, why don't we eliminate the district runner-ups from going on? How many times do you see a team that was beat in the district finals, thus what should mean elimination, go on and win the region with that second chance? Why dont we turn all tournaments into a double elimination and get the true "best" teams from each region?

Plus, my son played in the Class A state as a large class A public school team and it was a joke compared to who was actually a "small" school.

Nothing can take away the experience of our current state basketball championships. Not just playing the game, but everything that goes along with it.

I feel that we could have a 4 class system, with 4 state tourneys. You have 4 champions. Then to be the over all state champ you could have 3 more games. 4A vs 2A, 3A vs 1A then have the winners play for the over all KENTCUKY STATE CHAMP. All 4 would be recognized as there class champ and for those that want an over all champ, we could do the final 3 games. I think it would still be exciting and be a few more games to watch. But then again you have to look at what private schools are put in these 4 classes. You don't want a powerhouse in each class that will win it every year and it could happen. Have to be careful with this kind of thing.

 

 

Why should the big schools play the small schools to determine the "overall" champ. Wouldn't the big school be "overall" champ by nature of the split? The big schools aren't the one's complaining as far as I know.

Don't kid yourself, if they move to a class playoff, then only the final four from each division will be played at Rupp, and the rest of the games would be played at where ever. The cost would outweigh having even two sweet sixteen tournament as we see them today.... Sometimes the grass really isn't greener on the other side....

Hopkinsville was a district runner-up in 1985 and won the state title. I seem to remember someone else doing it since then.

Sounds like football doesn't it? Or better yet, the 7th and 11th regional basketball tournaments.

I'm am tired of independent school districts, who CHOOSE to be independent complaining bout EVERYTHING eg. football, Sweet 16
