It must be dissappointing to be a CovCath player, when all you hear is that "Holmes is more talented". How bout giving credit to the players (and I am not just talking to you).

WOW 56-5 61 games, compared to 41-19 60 games, and you do understand that neither CovCath nor Holmes plays any of the lesser teams in the ninth, for easy victories......

Team? Yes, very much so.

CCH is very good TEAM...just think Holmes has a little more talent. That being said, I believe the bigger differance is CCH is a more disiplined group, by far. Can CCH shoot, pass, defend, rebound, screen? Yes they can, and very well.

 

 

I also think CovCath has the better coach between the two programs!

Holmes is athletic as they come, but I think there problem is there shooting. If you look at the stats of this game and many of there others, they do not hit a lot of jump shots. They get the majority driving and finishing athletic plays. If you keep them from penetrating, Holmes struggles, due to the fact that they do not have pure shooter. Edmondson is a bigger lose to this team then a lot of people think.

The difference is Holmes' seniors have been playing varsity since their frosh year (2004). Some were playing JV as 8th graders. This current group of seniors at Holmes has been one of the most hyped teams in the 9th in a long, long time. They are yet to live up to the hype, though.

 

Covington Catholic is a program and the students, players & coaches know it. No one player is bigger than the program, and they are taught to play as a team & build towards the future. When players, managers and students graduate, they come back to Park Hills and keep in touch with their former teammates & coaches. Over the past 4 years, I can personally remember all 5 losses mentioned above. It is a program, starting at the top with Coach Listerman & his staff, moving down to the seniors all the way down to the freshman. I cannot speak for Holmes, but everything I've heard and read tells me that the two are very different. And that is something that is very difficult to gauge, but I think it makes a huge difference.

 

Anyone want to know why Holmes doesn't dominate this region?

How do you figure? Holmes has beaten Listerman teams before.

 

I can't see which team has a significant coaching edge. Henley has the hardest job in the region and has done a fair job. He has managed to keep some cohesiveness and a little discipline with this group. On the other hand, Listerman has been successful with a group of kids who, honestly, aren't that hard to coach. If anything, CCH Basketball has "scared away" some very talented players and coaches for various reasons (both Suttons, Michael Romes, Sam Cahill, Coach Dick Maile, ect.).

Every body keeps comparing that these are two different schools, they are indeed. In fact when you compare the two schools , programs and kids they come from two very different worlds. Holmes inner city, majority of kids from poverty ridden families, probably not much home discipline. Cov. Cath. kids from moderate to well to do homes probably from two parent homes where discipline is instilled every day. So when you compare which kids do you think would be easier to coach and would actually listen to coaching. This is a no brainer, so which kids go home to a more stable home environment as well as school environment?

And that indeed is really a shame in playing a team sport...... I just wonder if Hills problem on the floor last night (lack of scoring) had anything to do with all the problems on and off the floor. From what I understand Austin is a great kid, and I just wonder if all this is just getting to him, meaning all the problems, time after time after time.....

 

I'd guess it has zero to do with it. Instead, I'd say TJ shadowing him had more to do with his night.

I'm talking recent history - last two or three seasons - Coach L has lost players due to injuries and others because they were quitters (they played they quit - they played - they quit). He's lost coaches due to differences in strategy. And yet he still manages to beat Holmes. And based on this thread and others, it seems like everyone says Holmes is more talented.

Talent is making you teammates better. Physical talent is being able to play by yourself at a higher level. Obviously CCH has more talent.
