Give Tubby an extension on his contract. Lets keep him forever!!!

I don't usually post in Tubby Smith threads because in all honesty I don't care if any UK coach stays/goes/gets fired. BUT...I am SO TIRED of listening to UK fans and others complain about this coach. I am well aware that a coach does hold responsibility of his/her team. BUT...at what point are some of these players going to step to the plate and take some responsibility for these losses. I watched the Vandy game in it's entirity on Sunday. At no time did I see Tubby Smith take a poor shot, make a dumb foul, pass the ball directly into the other teams hands and last but not least dribble down the court as if you were a 10 year old that has had WAAYYYYYY to much sugar!! I think more people need to start jumping on these players than the "Fire Tubby" bandwagon.

Say Tubby goes. What players will follow? Hypothetically let's say Morris and Crawford bounce. Would Ramel stay? How about the freshman? If one or two of them transfer how is the roster for the new coach? It would likely rule out Patterson and Lucas, and Stewart would have the shot to reopen his recruitment as well. What would be left for the new coach? Starting over isn't fun. Trust me...

It all depends on who replaces him. If there is immediate name recognition, a faster pace of playing the coach is known for and connections to the pros(either getting players there or actually coaching there)---I dont think they would miss a beat.

If the announcement was early enough they might land some one who they had no chance to get before.

 

The worst scenario is to let it linger where no one knows if he is back with all the talk and their current season.

The Spring signing period starts April 11th and there are less than 10 players available in the Rivals top 150. If he's gone by the end of the 1st weekend the search starts March 19th. What if the targets in mind are still alive? Now you're looking at the 26th at best to start interviews. If there's a NBA coach in the mix, the wait is until July. At that point you're picking at the bones of a dead carcass in recruiting. Be careful what you ask for people, you just might get worse...

The TBers might just deserve a year or two as UC is suffering through now to realign their expectations.

GT pointed out the scerario I was just about to bring up. This is the kind of situation that I would love to see happen for Tubby. The players on this years team finally figure out how to win games at the end of games, and we win the National Championship, and then Tubby retires. Then Patterson, and Lucas wont come here because Tubby wont be here, then Morris will go pro, crawford probably be stupid and decide to try to go pro as well. Then the new coach has to come in with pretty much nothing left, and probably wont make the tournament, and then the people would be putting down the new coach and wishing Tubby was back. And this way Tubby can just sit back and laugh at everyone because he brought us two national championships, and the person who replaced him doesn't make the tournament...

 

Even though I really wouldn't want to miss the tournament next year, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see this for Tubby and all the things he has had to deal with...

As I said in another thread, I think Tubby would be a perfect fit as a permanent Team USA Coach. Class act, tremendously knowledgeable, recruiting is mostly handled by the higher ups.

I see what you are saying but it still depends on who would replace him. IU went through this last year and they have come out ok. UNC went through it a couple of years ago and never missed a beat. But then there is UC so who knows.

UNC and IU kept most of their roster in tact while UC lost just about everything and had to start from scratch. That's the question. Who would stay and who would go...

I say it would be a safe bet that Morris and Crawford would be gone for sure. Then that also would mean Patterson and Lucas wouldn't come here. Then as you mentioned the other recruits possibly could decide to go else where then too.

I think U.K has a good group of young players and i think if they let Tubby go who would go with them im not a huge Tubby fan but i do think there is talent in the program what he does with that talen in the next 2 years will decide his fate IMO if he is around to coach them.......

Basing the direction of your program on the decision making process of two teenagers would not seem to be very wise.

Ever heard where theres smoke theres fire? If only a few were bashing nothing there IMO but to many, for so long, tells me there is a problem in Tubbyland.
