Jr. came home today from practice and said that there were over 60 kids at Freshman workouts. This doesn't even include some kids that are finishing basketball and of course the local NKY talent pool.:sssh:

 

WOW! I bet Coach Barr doesn't know what to do with that many given that there are normally 20 or so at this point. Jr. also said he has never seen such big freshman before. Wonder if they will add any coaches to the Freshman level to help out.

 

They definitely have huge shoes to fill and from the looks of things, they are up to the task. I can hear it already, "this is the biggest, fastest, and best looking team ever" Can't wait to see the young Birds in action.

Should be interesting to see how they shake out. They have a ton of size and some verrrry good athletes but also have more than their share of head cases. Hopefully they will mature over the summer and leave those Jr. High blues behind them.

Definately the largest team pound for pound in Frosh Coach Charlie Barr tenture there. I think he's been there for around 30 yrs or so. Talking about a team with an attitude, these kids can be down right not nice. WOW! Talented and Mean, that could be something HHS has been missing recently.

The prospects sound scary for the rest of NKY, 60 frosh is impressive for the big schools....I guess Ft Thomas Highlands is considered a big school now since they are in AAAAA.

What are some of the sizes of these kids. Are you serious about this being the biggest team pound for pound ever at Highlands. That's is a pretty bold statement considering there have been some pretty big teams at Highlands especially this past team in 2006. What are they feeding these kids!!!!!

Unless I'm mistaken (and I wasn't involved with the Jr. Football League last year so I'm not too close to this year's frosh) I think there are two or three really big linemen, and I mean really big for frosh. From the couple of games I watched them play last year, they have a ways to go to develop some foot speed. But if they are willing to do the work, I'm sure the coaches will take care of that.

 

Sweep would know better the names and weights. Maybe he can give us an early scouting report on the team including likely starters and impact players.

 

This year's frosh remind me a lot in some ways of the to be juniors when they were frosh. When they were 8th graders, they seemed to enjoy fighting with one another as much as they did playing football against each other. But when they came together as frosh, things calmed down as they were all on the same team and they went undefeated. Lets hope the incoming frosh do the same. I know this: if they aren't working their tails off this off season, it could be trouble. Everyone outside Ft. Thomas in N. Ky is gunning to end the unbeaten streak of the frosh Birds. The streak has to end some time, but I'd sure hate to be on the team that had the streak ended. Nothing like a little challenge and pressure to start one's high school football career:laugh:.

 

I have to admit I'm quite surprised to read that there were 60 to be frosh in the weight room. That sounds quite a bit overstated (don't mean to insult your son Blue Boy). Its just way out of whack with the norm so it makes me wonder. But I hope its true. Go Birds.

With such a large frosh group, could it be possible to split the roster and have two teams? Has anyone ever heard of this happening before (besides in grade school)? In some ways, it hurts the lesser skilled player because of a lack of playing time.

How about the Schlarman, Berenger, Reynolds group? Lorenzen, Smith, Kuhnhein?

If you're talking about 60 minutes there are also 6th and 7th graders attending although I don't know how many.

Coach Barr was quoted in the Ft Thomas magazine as saying these are the biggest kids he's seen since he's been here. I believe it was the December issue.

The BIG THREE for the Baby Birds are as follows. Center Zach Lowe 6'-2 220, Chris "Biscuit" Shroyer 6'-3" 285, and the giant of this bunch is Jack Gruenshlacher 6'-4" weighing in at a tad over 250. Don't know about the other two but Jack G dad says doctors reports are in at 6'10 365. The magazine is "Inside Fort Thomas" and Coach Barr said that the incoming freshmen will be his biggest since Schlarman and Reynolds. He also said it's too early to tell how good the class will be. There is some quickness in the skill positions and a lot of size on the line.
