His brother Kenny played football for Thomas More. Hes a pretty big guy. He told me this past year he played at 300. And for the record Chris is (pardon the pun) maybe a biscuit shy of 285. Older brother is like father figure to Chris and there should great potential to be a dandy for the birds. Maybe another Rob Smith.

 

That's a huge stretch as he's pretty calm on the football field right now. Once he gets more of an attitude maybe.

I know with the size of OL you are talking about a serious offensive threat with two bruiser backs in Corey Compton and Austin Bowling. I know they are counting on Austin Abner at QB along with some other pretty shifty guys with explosive speed at receivers. Possibly talking about Dillon Harvey 6'-1 Tight End. Lots of other talent available at these positions as well. Charlie Barr will have them ready as always. Go Birds.

The BIG THREE for the Baby Birds are as follows. Center Zach Lowe 6'-2 220, Chris "Biscuit" Shroyer 6'-3" 285, and the giant of this bunch is Jack Gruenshlacher 6'-4" weighing in at a tad over 250. Don't know about the other two but Jack G dad says doctors reports are in at 6'10 365. As LN posted above lots of work ahead for the big men with foot speed but they do have a rounded understanding of the game thanks to Ft. Thomas Jr Football league. Go Birds

Yes he is Jamies little brother. Corey is an excellent athelete in both baseball and football. A young boy locked in a mans body for the moment. He is a real head hunter on defense. Can hit a baseball a mile as well.

Who will they have at the skill positions? TY Seidl, Bishop, Harvey,Gold, Huddleston,etc Abner will run through a brick wall if coach tells him too so if he is going out for QB I see a lot of bootlegs and keepers. They should be very tough. If Compton is anything like Jamie, he will be a load.

On a much sadder note for the Birds, I understand Dillon Cottingham son of former All State Linebacker Mark "Dusty" Cottingham who helped HHS to two State Champ seasons in '81,'82 will not be attending Highlands next year. Instead the lastest reports indicate he's heading to Park Hills and Not for Football but for Baseball. I am quite sure Dusty will here about this from some of his boys in Ft. Thomas.

I am assuming CCH and for baseball? If this is true, how tight are Maile and Cottingham? Didnt Maile play for the Birds during those early 80's state champ teams? Since Rich has his boy Luke playing for the colonels and a future prospect, wonder if there was any influence there.

I don't know if this is true. But if it is, while I am disappointed, if Dusty thinks CCH is the best high school for his son to succeed in playing baseball and in getting an education, then that's where he should send his son. Much as we learned with Mitchell and Sheffield, CCH isn't for everyone and likewise, neither is Highlands. If Dusty was unhappy with the Birds baseball program he could have kept his kid at Highlands and tried to improve it or sent his kid somewhere else. He, if your rumor is true, chose the later option. Hopefully this will just increase Highlands baseball program's committment and resolve to continue to improve.
