Cincinnati media...No NKY highlights

Featured Replies

What's up with the Cincy media, I tape the Blitz and they never show KY highlights, such a shame kids on the south side of the Ohio don't receive attention from the big city.

I know what you mean. Great crowd, packed house....good for TV

I have been going on about this topic for a long time. In covering the 8th region for 2 years now, I have repeatedly asked folks from the Enquirer to cover the area. I'm always told no. I know this post is about TV, but we do get some mention by the KY Post and the local papers of course. Even radio won't cover high school sports on any regularity (sp?) Clear Channel has an edict that they do not talk high school sports. It's not worth their time our their signal to discuss players that may eventually become big leaguers.

That is about to change.

I have taken it upon myself to start the movement. No kidding. I am looking to do a two hour radio show on high school sports. Can't give details as they are still being worked out. Covering Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Including some of the schools in the 8th region, at least as far as the signal reaches. Believe me, I'm tired of the non-coverage too. As I said that is about to change. When I know more, I will post.

We need to voice our opinions to the stations and to the newspapers. There are ways to let the powers to be know that we, their customers, are unhappy with the inequity in coverage. :madman:

Channel 9 was at the Silver Grove-Ludlow game. They had all 3 of Pelle's dunks on the highlight reel. NKU coaches in attendance once again.

How tall is Pelle????

How tall is Pelle????

Their was a great article on him in the Enquirer a couple of weeks ago, if I remember correctly 6'1 was the height listed for him.

8th region coverage? Don't hold your breath on that one. SK will get coverage when they play the high-profile 9th region teams but that's it. I agree that SK-Scott's environment would be good to cover but it just depends on who else is playing that night in Cincinnati.

Is your show actually going to on the radio or will it be a net broadcast?

Radio. It will also be able to be streamed from the radio station. I have always maintained that these smaller schools do not get the coverage they deserve.

Take for example, the Gallatin Co./Shelby County game. This was the biggest game that has been played in Gallatin County in some time. This is when Wade was still playing. David vs. Goliath. Gallatin Co. takes Shelby to overtime and arguably should have won in regulation (there's already a thread for that). What coverage was there apart from our broadcast and The Gallatin County News?? None.

It's going to be my job to bring games like this to the forefront on this show. Not just for Northern Kentucky but Greater Cincinnati and Southeast Indiana as well. Believe me, Simon Kenton holds a strong place in my heart too, but the other schools in the eighth region deserve some pub as well.

It's going to be about players as well as teams. People have heard about Hester at SK, but I guarantee you that people in the 9th region do not know who Dan Neeley is unless they have played Owen County. It's that sort of thing that I want to bring out.

No one is doing this. That's why I am going to try my best to.:thumb:

NKU would be perfect for Pelle. I hope they offer him something and keep him local. I still have not seen this kid play and would like the chance to at NKU.

Channel 9 seems to do the best job of covering NKY teams IMO. Radio, other than individual school's internet radio broadcasts, are pretty non-existant. The Post and Enquirer (better known as the Covington Catholic Chronicle :D ) do a decent job on the bigger games!! I thought the Enquirer in particular did a good job of covering the All "A" Classic, with two NKY teams in the finals; and I know Ryan Ernst was at EKU well after the Boy's final was over!!

You really need to make an effort to get out and see him play. You will be amazed at his talent and how bright he is out on the basketball floor. Their remaining games are...

Tonight- @ Pendleton (weather pending)

Tuesday- @ Silver Grove vs Heritage

Also, you will love how he gets the other players on the floor involved. You will like the style of play by Wiseman and Steve Pelle also.

I gave this idea a shot a few years back and it's EXPENSIVE. Good luck...

Who in NKY/Cincinnati wants to hear about Gallatin County and Shelby? How many people? 4? The 8th gets no coverage because there is no audience in Greater Cincinnati for it. How many people in Cincy can tell you within 40 miles where Gallatin or Shelby is?

Owen County? I'm an advertiser and you are trying to tell me to spend money on a Cincinnati/NKY radio station and you're going to talk about Owen County?

IMO there is no market for high school sportstalk. BGP and Yappi already have that covered.
