Who do you believe was the best team from your school (or the team you adopted as yours) that ended up not winning a title, and why?

2008 St. X.  Had a bad first quarter against a good Trinity team in the semifinals after having beaten them soundly in the regular season.  Had highest scoring offense in school history and defense allowed less than 10 points per game.

I will also say the '99 Bellevue Tigers. Undefeated leading up to the regional championship game against Beechwood (who they beat earlier that year). Lost 35-0 in that game, but before that game they were on a very hot streak. Probably one of Charlie Coleman's best squads outside of the 1990 Bellevue team that were state runner ups.

2016 Holy Cross Indians (some say better than 2011 state championship team).  Lost 42-35 in semi-finals to Danville with Indians driving in the last minute.  Danville stops them on 3 straight plays with one yard to go.  The question that will be asked for years is why didn't the Indians give the ball to Derrick Barnes (RB who is now a LB for the Detroit Lions).

There is also an argument for the '92 and '87 Boone County teams that were coached by legendary coach Owen Hauck. '92 lost in the championship game 3-0 to St. X in the 4A title game, and then 17-14 in '87 in the 4A title game to Shelby County. Would have been nice to see Boone County have a state title in the trophy case.

2005 and 2007 teams unfortunately are right behind the 2008 team. Some really good teams and players were coming through St. X during this time, but they just came up a little short of the ultimate goal.

Not on par with some of these elite teams, but Glasgow faithful deeply consider the time 80s to be their "Powerhouse Era." From 1982-1986 They were on a tear. Beating all the regional teams including Owensboro, Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, and Franklin Simpson; Teams of the era. They Lost to Corbin in the state finals in 1982, Then went Undefeated in 1984, 1885, and 1986 before eventually falling to those incredible Jaggers Ft Knox teams.

Others may also mention the runs in 1999 and 2000, falling to the Boyle County Dynasty.

2011 was a personal favorite of mine as we saw an 0-11 team in 2009 turn into a state runner up team before our eyes.

still no real state champions at Glasgow... besides "mythical" state championships in 1929 with a bowl game victory over the Northern Ky champion Highlands and 1942 in a similar case.

'96 Dayton Greendevils. Lost in the region to Beechwood on 4th and goal. They win that game, they win their 2nd 1A state title in football.

I was going to comment this. I grew up on the sidelines as a water boy with Coach Ridders son Ben. Coach Smith was our PE teacher in elementary school. Jason Skirvin was the first childhood hero I had. 96-98 were some of my favorite years of Greendevil Football.

This one is a bit out there because there's some hindsight involved, and is based more on what the players on that roster are up to now rather than what they did then, but the 2018 FD Douglass team went 11-1 losing in the 2nd round to State Runner Up Scott County 28-27. Had they won they likely would've went all the way to the Title game and I think they would've matched up well with Male that year. 5 (4 Off, 1 Def) players on that team went on to either get drafted, signed UDFA deals or received mini camp invites in 2026.

For Boyle in my opinion it would be:

24' With the early exit to Cov Cath lead by Mr. Football would be at the top of the list.

18' Losing to Corbin in the semis with another excellent team also lead by Reese and a stellar junior class

19' Losing in the finals to JC lead by a Mr. Football candidate Reese Smith and that same stellar class as seniors.

04' Losing in the finals to Highlands lead by Brandon Smith and company.

24' Is one of the most talented teams in BC history reaching as high as 12th nationally and ended their season way to early for such a talented group.

The two runner-ups had their shot and missed putting them lower than the 24' and 18' was closer than 24' with arguably a slightly less talented roster than 24'.
