I have no idea what the recipe is any longer. All that I know is that: 

1) College basketball coaching is no longer a draw. UK hiring a dude from BYU; UL a dude from Charleston, etc.

2) You must have resources (UK and UNC have that).

3) You need a dude who knows how to coach. Like, really coach. Otherwise, you will be exposed. Aside from Larry Brown, Malone is about as decorated an NBA coach as you will find who has made the transition to college. Who knows if it will transition to college? Having an all-time great on your team (Jokic) can make you look pretty good as well. ?

Larry Brown also went from the College side to the NBA.

I hear you. I am making an observation, sharing info I hear and saying it actually might be possible. I agree much of the Donovan speculation in the past has been humorous, if not silly. But from what I hear about the Bulls, reports are Donovan's advisors are telling him to get out of Chicago.

Correct on Roy Williams, which he would be more the exception. As he was part of the UNC family, as UNC only hired their own. 
 

Now Calipari hiring doesn’t go against what I said at all. As Memphis didn’t make the final four the year before UK hired him. 

It's being reported now that Iowa's Ben McCollum turned down North Carolina too, which is what pushed them toward Malone.

The entire process is reminiscent of UK's.  The major names and some lesser names turned down two of the most storied programs ever.  

Both programs need to evaluate some things, in my opinion.

Just because he has won an NBA Championship does not mean it's going to correlate a NCAA National Championship. I was listening to Ricky P. after the final 4, and he made the comment that UK, Duke, UNC, KU MSU those we refer to as the "Blue Bloods" of basketball, those days are gone! Those schools will always be great, but in the day of Revenue Sharing and NIL, the "blue blood" days are over. I mean look this year you had Michigan, UConn, IL, AZ in the final 4, with UK going out in the round of 32 as did KU, Duke in the Elite 8; MSU Sweet 16; UNC went out in the first round. 

What are your thoughts?

These kids don't care one ounce how many titles a team won 30 years before they were born.

Totally agree, money has and will change the game, changing of the guard.

I guess we will find out soon in both cases on how well it will work out.

I am not totally sure about UNC fan base, but the BBN is UK's biggest problem right now.  Kids don't want to come to a place where they get thrown under the bus after every bad game/play/shot.  The negativity of the most passionate fan base in College basketball is the problem.

Its a small vocal minority that do things like that at every major school. At this point after seeing so many fake "Fan Pages" on places like Facebook I wonder how many of those pages and post on different sites are even actual fans. Yeah, some fans are jerks...but they are like that at every school as well.
