Somerset picked up a 53-51 win on the road at Clinton County tonight.  Clinton County was 19-3 coming into the game.  

"The redkneckist move".  Love it!

Bush league for sure. Could be a real blow to a Wayne County team ready to make a run.

Somerset leads Boyle County 36-22 at the half.  Homecoming night at the Briar Patch.

My opinion this cements Phillips as the POY in the 12th. 3,000 is a monster number and I think he is over 1,000 rebounds as well. Has his team in the hunt as a region contender as well. I know a lot of great players in the 12th but he just stands out with his career numbers.

I have to disagree.  It's player of the year, not career, even though career achievements are not insignificant.  I still think it's between Absher, Phillips and Ateny.  If you're looking at career contributions, Ateny was the best player on a team last year that won the All A and the Regional and went unbeaten in regional play while going 29-4.  Absher's had a great career as well and his contributions as a sophomore made a big difference in getting them to the regional finals. 

I'm partial to Ateny because I'm a DCA supporter but I'm going to wait until the regionals play out to see if any of those three distinguish themselves in the next few weeks.

I would definitely agree with you if it wasn’t a senior only award. I know lots of underclassmen that could have won it over the past years. Probably some could have won it 2-3 years in a row but that’s not how it’s set up. All the players you mentioned are good players but a 3,000 and 1,000 guy who usually has his team in contention to win a district and compete in region and has for a long time in my opinion gets the nod. 

What if Wayne doesn’t make it out of district? Would that change things?

I believe it is voted on late in the regular season.

Phillips is a great player and seems like a great young man too.  But, if we're talking career accolades other than stats and include winning (tournament success) what exactly have they done?  Have they won a regional tournament game since he's been in HS?  Just curious, because I know Ateny and Absher have impacted and led teams to postseason success...

Him and Absher stats are almost identical across the board this year.  But I agree, I think the coaches will vote his way and Ateny won't get many votes.
