? Maroons Trudge Through The Swamp In Search Of Mid-season Form

Madisonville’s upset of Paducah Tilghman feels like a long forgotten fever dream. It was the catalyst for their ascent to #2 in the polls before a precipitous fall after losing to Apollo and being throttled half to death by Owensboro.

Are the Maroons too far gone for restoration? The road to recovery coincides with Round 1 of the playoffs and runs through the murk and mire of the 'Swamp'.

The Gators will attempt to finish Madisonville off after enduring a schedule that only handed out defeat from quality competition. Three of Greenwood’s losses came against teams with a combined record of 28-2, with the fourth loss coming to Bowling Green, whom they've never beaten.

This one could play out every which way imaginable, making it one of the first round’s main attractions.

  • Their QB is 69 for 118 for 865 yards and 4 TD’s on the year -with 10 Interceptions.  This sounds like a Graves vs MNH matchup.  Graves’ run defense is really good.   I think it he winner will get abou

Absolutely. People are down on MNH right now, but they could be dangerous if written off. Greenwood has no big wins to hang its hat on, but they were highly competitive with South Warren, Logan County, Bowling Green, and East Robertson (TN), who's undefeated and ranked #1 in Tennessee's 2A.

This should be one of the best games of the weekend.

Running team vs a Running defense.  Could go either way, I think MNH is much better than O made them look.  If they can beat Tilghman, then they can beat Greenwood.  Will they come out deflated or ticked off???  I’ll go 21-14 North Hopkins.

I think MNH gets this one by a couple scores.

Great game here!

I like Greenwood at home!  Madisonville should play much better than they did against Owensboro, but I think this "matchup" is one Greenwood should be prepared for.  Their front 7 are very good at stopping the run.  If they can do that vs MNH, then I don't see them being able to score much at all.

Thing is Greenwood's offense isn't great either, but I think they can do enough to get this win.

But they lost to Apollo at home and got blown out by Owensboro at home.

I'm going with Greenwood coming to Rash next week and playing the Devils.

This is basically a even matchup but I'll go with Greenwood since they are at home.

True - but Apollo just outscored them with a solid offensive effort - North had 500 yards offense that game and scored 40, not sure Greenwood has that firepower that Apollo has to light them up.  But they obviously have a solid D.    Only Owensboro D has held MNH to anything but a fluke play TD.  Greenwood is tough, but I believe Greenwood will struggle somewhat to get TD’s.  I won’t be surprised if either way, but if MNH has already folded up the tent, Gwood will win by 2 TD’s.  North is a prideful program and I’ve never seen them lay down in the playoffs.

I like Greenwood easy in this one. I just don’t trust MNH after those Owensboro and Apollo games.

Definitely one of the better first round matchups.

MNH run defense is pretty good. Defending the pass is where they are weak, that’s how Apollo and O capitalized the most.. Does GW have a decent passing attack?  Both teams play into the strength of the other teams defense. This should be a low scoring slug fest.
